Chapter Ten: You're Killing Me
Friday came and went. Haleigh only had two classes on Friday mornings and before she knew it the day was over. The sun was beginning to set as she walked slowly back to her dorm room. She was not looking forward to the Kappa Sigma party that both Sam and Toby were forcing her to attend. All she really wanted to do was curl up with one of her books and get lost in the story. Shane had called earlier, apologizing for not being able to text as much this week. He told Haleigh all about his date from last weekend and explained that he decided to take Bryan out again tonight. He was looking forward to the date. He listened when Haleigh told him about her week and that her roommate was forcing her to go to a fraternity party. He had told her to embrace it and meet new people.
Now Haleigh was rummaging through her closet in search of something to wear. She was running low on clean clothing and desperately needed to make a trip to the laundry mat some time this weekend. Sam came barging through the door at this moment carrying a bunch of shopping bags. Haleigh sighed, wishing Sam had invited her along on her shopping spree. Normally Haleigh hated to shop, but right now she was in need of something to wear tonight.
"I got you something." Sam announced in a sing-song voice as she plopped down on her bed with all of her bags. She reached into an American Eagle bag and pulled out a strappy black crop top and some high waisted, distressed, light blue skinny jeans.
"Are you crazy?" Haleigh asked her new friend as she held the crop top up to her. chest. "Where's the rest of it?"
"Oh come on, it will look great on you, and catch the attention of that cute bass player you're always staring at." Sam teased.
"What are you talking about?" Haleigh gasped. If she was referring to Zander, Haleigh was afraid that was a lost cause. She hadn't received a single text from him since their trip to the bagel shop last weekend. To be fair though, Haleigh had never responded to Zander when he had texted her that day.
"Don't play dumb. You stared at him the whole time you were at the homecoming bash last weekend, and when we went to get bagels last Sunday you couldn't take your eyes off of him." Sam proclaimed. "I'm not blind, Haleigh."
"I don't even know him. He could be a serial killer or something." Haleigh was being dramatic as she slipped into the jeans Sam had just bought her. They fit nicely. She looked in the full length mirror that was attached to the door, and was pleased at how the jeans looked on her.
"You're being dramatic." Sam pointed out the obvious.
"You realize it is November, and this is Vermont, right?" Haleigh asked, still unsure of the crop top.
"You're going to look so hot in it you wont even care about being cold. Besides, just wear your jean jacket over it, it will still be cute."
Giving in, Haleigh pulled the black, crop top over her head, then pulled on her favorite jean jacket and trusty black converse. She then got to work on her hair. Sam let her borrow her curling iron, and even assisted in curling the hair in the back of Haleigh's head. The curls gave Haleigh's normal beach waves some much needed volume. Next she applied a small amount of eyeshadow, a winged eyeliner, and some mascara. She used a white eyeliner on her bottom lash line to make her eyes pop, a tip she had learned from Sam. She finished off the look with a clear lip gloss.
"Damn girl," Sam smiled at her roommate from the other side of the dorm. "For someone who doesn't want to go to this thing you look fucking hot!" Sam was finishing her makeup. She had on a short, flowy white dress that stopped just above her knee. She borrowed Haleigh's leather jacket, and paired the look with her famous stilettos, and a choker necklace. Her hair was curled and one side was pinned up. She was stunning.
