Chapter Thirty-Eight: Yours

Haleigh's emotions were everywhere as she wrapped her arms around Zander's neck. The two kissed passionately as the crowd of the Kappa Sigma party cheered for them. Haleigh had begun to feel anxious when Zander had been singing to her, being the center of attention had always freaked her out. She had also still been a little mad at Zander about the Alyssa situation. But when his lips had met hers after he had sang to her, and the intensity of the moment, and meaning of the song, and the cheers of the crowd sank in, all the negative emotions had vanished. The only thing that mattered was Zander, and the fact that she was completely, unforgivably in love with him. Haleigh and Zander pulled apart, and looked up at Jackson as he began to speak into the microphone.

"We are going to give Zander a little break, so please bare with us while we have a missing band member for a couple songs." Jackson winked toward Zander and Haleigh before starting in on a cover of Led Zeppelin's Stairway to Heaven.

Zander took Haleigh's hand in his and lead her toward the front door of the Kappa Sigma house. Haleigh didn't even notice the red head who stood, scowling, by the entry way of the house. The November nights, had turned to December, a thin layer of snow sprinkled the ground, and the air was brisk and daunting against their faces as the couple stepped out onto the porch.

"I can't believe you did this." Haleigh sighed as they stood in front of a wooden bench that occupied the porch of the Kappa Sigma house. Zander tugged slightly on Haleigh's hand. She smiled as she spun toward him, resting her left hand on his chest, she looked into his golden brown eyes. Zander had some remnants of his fight with Justin still left on his face, his lips were slightly split and were purple with bruising, his left eye had healed a little, and he was able to see out it, the swelling had gone down, but his cheek was still split open, and slightly bruised.

Zander smiled down at Haleigh as he cupped her beautiful face in his hand and pulled her toward him, placing a sweet and gentle kiss on her soft lips. His hand rested on the small of her back.

"You're so beautiful, you know that?" Zander wondered as they pulled away slightly. He smiled as he noticed the blush that crept slowly onto Haleigh's cheeks.

"Stop." She rolled her eyes bashfully, and took a seat on the bench they had been standing in front of. Zander sat beside her, taking Haleigh's hand in his as he laced their fingers together. He brought their hands to his lips, and placed a kiss on the back of Haleigh's hand.

"I'm serious," Zander insisted. The porch light was shining down perfectly, framing his face in a way that made Haleigh want to kiss him all night. "You're the most beautiful girl I have ever seen."

"You're insane." Haleigh giggled, not believing Zander. Zander sighed, annoyed that she didn't believe him.

"So what happens now?" Haleigh wonder, as she moved her thumb against the back of Zander's hand.

"What do you want to happen?" Zander asked respectfully. Haleigh shrugged in response, afraid of Zander's reaction if she had told him what she wanted to happen.

Someone cracked a window beside them. The Kappa Sigma parties always made that house extremely stuffy. The music from The Wailing Donkeyz echoed throughout the front lawn of the house.

"Well, I'll tell you what I want to happen." Zander smirked at the girl who sat beside him, holding his hand. "I want to hold you in my arms whenever choose to. I want to show you off to all of my friends. I want them all to be jealous knowing that I'm with the most beautiful girl on campus." He paused as he noticed a smile creep across Haleigh's cheeks. "I want to call you mine, I want you to spend the night at my apartment, and I want to wake up next to you in your dorm room. I want to take you out to dinner, and make you breakfast the next day. I want to walk you to all your classes, and go with you to your home town to meet your dad and your brother. I want to make you happy, and show the world just how happy you make me." Zander knew he was being cheesy, but he didn't care. Everything he was saying to this girl was true. He wanted it all with Haleigh. No holding back.

"Is that all?" Haleigh teased, smiling slightly.

"Hales." Zander smirked waiting for her response.

"That all sounds amazing." Haleigh sighed as she rested her head on Zander's shoulder. The couple sat in silence for a while, as they absorbed the cool December night.

The Wailing Donkeyz changed their song, and a slow, country style tune seeped through the cracked window. Haleigh recognized it immediately. She stood from where she sat on the bench and extended a hand toward Zander.

"Dance with me." She smiled as she looked deeply into those golden eyes.

"I can't dance." Zander admitted as he too got to his feet, taking Haleigh's hand in his.

"Come on." Haleigh locked her hands around Zander's neck, while Zander placed his hands softly against Haleigh's hips. They swayed gracefully to the melody of the song that played.

"I came to life when I first kissed you, the best me has his arms around you, you make me better than I was before, thank god I'm yours." Jackson's voice echoed into the front lawn as he sang Yours by Russell Dickerson. Haleigh and Zander swayed to the music as Haleigh rested her cheek on Zander's chest. "I was a worn out set of shoes, wandering the city streets, another face in the crowd, head looking down, lost in the sound of a lonely melody. Empty pockets at a roulette, always landing on a lost bet, just live for the spin and hope for the win, go all in just to lose again, but, I came to life when I first kissed you, the best me has his arms around you, you make me better than I was before, thank god I'm yours..."

Haleigh and Zander pulled apart quickly as a loud crash sounded. The front door had slammed open, colliding with the wall of the house. Alyssa stood in the doorway her arms crossed over her chest. Rage monopolized her expression as she stormed out of the Kappa Sigma house. Her gaze found Haleigh's. If looks could kill... Haleigh thought to herself. Zander slipped his hand into Haleigh's.

"Well aren't you too just so cute." The sarcasm dripped heavily from her voice.

"What do you want Alyssa." Zander rolled his eyes, stepping slightly in front of Haleigh.

Alyssa smirked as she made her way over to the couple. Her expression of rage had turned into an expression Zander was all too familiar with. It was the look she had given him multiple times when they had been intimate, long before he knew Haleigh. Zander still clung tightly to Haleigh's hand as Alyssa stepped in front of Zander.

"Why baby, I want you." She said coyly. She ran the back side of her index finger along Zander's jawline, Zander jerked away.

"Back off bitch." Haleigh growled from behind Zander. Her blood was beginning to boil with anger as Alyssa attempted to seduce Zander right in front of her.

Alyssa laughed slightly in response.

"Come on Zan, no way this bitch can rock your world like I can." Alyssa attempted to caress Zander's cheek once more, but he swatted her hand away.

"Never gonna happen Lyss." He mocked the girl who was making a fool of herself.

"Oh but it already happened, don't you remember?" Alyssa giggled mockingly. Haleigh closed her eyes, and took a deep breath, attempting to calm her anger. "Don't you remember me climbing on top of you, riding-"

"God, just go home!" Zander interrupted Alyssa. He was growing more and more annoyed with this girl. He had finally won Haleigh back. This night had been perfect. He should have guessed it would be ruined somehow. "No one wants you here."

"You should get tested." Alyssa turned her attention to Haleigh, ignoring Zander's last words. "You never know with a guy like this. You might end up with Chlamydia or something." Alyssa smirked giving her last ditch effort to drive a wedge between Haleigh and Zander. She turned on her heel, heading off in the direction of her apartment building.

"I hate that bitch." Haleigh mumbled under her breath. Zander nodded in agreement.
