I Don't Know What You Expect Of Me

I sat down at the table, smiling tiredly at everyone. "You look tired as fuck." I sighed and took a long sip from my coffee. I heard shouting and I looked up to see Cody, fighting with a girl across the café. "That's why, did you know he has a girlfriend? Shay, the girl in our Math class. They've been fighting since Wednesday, and she came storming into room last night, screaming about something, accused me of 'whoreing it up with Cody'." I rubbed my eyes. "That was wild from start to finish." Brendon laughed as I playfully glared at him. "I can see why she is skeptical, he is only close with his friends, you and Shay. Having another girl around must make her anxious." "YOU KNOW WHAT! I'M DONE!" I heard more shouting and then it went quiet. "Well that happened." Dallon snorted. The café didn't get louder than a whisper. "Amelia don't look now but Cody is on his way over." I looked up and sure enough, the brunette stood in front of me. Once he noticed I wasn't standing up, he took a seat next to me. 

"You need something?" Brendon snapped. "I need Amelia, not any of you." I glared at Brendon and put my hand on Cody's arm. "Cody be nice. What's up?" He dropped his head and when he brought it up, it looked like he is going to cry. "You know what, lets go back to our room, I'll email Dr. Way and let him know we might not go to classes today." I grabbed his hand and brought him up with me. "I'll see you guys later." I walked away, shooting a look toward his friends, they also got up and ran after us. When we reached the purple hall, Cody had tears falling down his face. It shocked me honestly, I've never seen him so vulnerable and broken. I unlocked our door and pulled him inside, before I knew what I was doing, Cody pulled me into a hug. He was a inch taller than I, so my head was on his shoulder.

The door opened again and the guys stepped inside. "What happened? Was it Shay?" Cody started crying harder, I could feel it against my stomach, where his breathing got heavier. "Guys, not now. Cody please tell me what's wrong so I can try to fix it." He stepped away, his face red and puffy. "I know you lost someone and you know I lost my parents last year. Shay kept bringing it up and after I told her I'm done she said so was my parents." His shoulders sagged and more tears fell down his face. I sat down on my bed, pulling him with me. He put his head on my shoulder and I rubbed his arm in comfort. Dan looked extremely angry. I mean everyone was mad, but he was the madest. The bell rang and I sighed. "Guys get to class, I'm going to email the Dean and tell him Cody and I won't be in. He'll understand." They all left the room reluctantly, leaving me with a crying Cody and no idea what to do. "Do you want to talk about it?" He sighed and nodded. "My mom was driving to come pick me up so we could leave for the summer. Dan was coming with me as well. We were waiting in front of the school when he heard a crash and sirens. They died....died right outside the school. I was right there, and I couldn't do anything. My sister had come of legal age shortly after they passed and she took me in. She's in college halfway across the country, and she didn't want to pull me out of school. Shay and I met in the end of 9th grade. She helped me through a lot of the pain and anger. She kept me sane when the guys weren't around. I know I sound and act like an asshole a lot of the time, but I just don't trust people. Then you showed up and suddenly I had something other than everyone, someone who understood everything I was and still am going through."

He laid back on my made bed, staring up at the ceiling. "Losing my parents hit me harder than anything has ever hit me. They were the sole reason I came here. They encouraged to become what I wanted to become more than anything, a singer. I just miss them a lot."
