when we were in my room, i locked the door and put the blinds down so no one could see through the window.

"so what are we gonna do now?" Jonah asked, "should we stay here? but what if they come in?"

"i'm not sure. that's what i'm wondering too." i replied.

"why are they even here? why'd they pick this house? they could even be solicitors." he informed me.

"they don't even knock, though. they wouldn't, because i have a doorbell. and if no one answers they just leave." i told him.

"is your doorbell working?"

"yeah it is."

"oh." he said.

i was listening carefully to see if they came in but i was interrupted by a ringtone. i shook the second it came to my ears.

"chill it's just Corbyn." Jonah said, laughing.

he answered his phone.

"hey bro." he said.

"no, i didn't have a chance to. i'm at her house right now." he tried to say quietly, but i heard him.

me? he didn't have a chance to do what?

"no, not that. something's going on."

"these men are standing outside her house so i'm with her."

"i don't know, if they come in."

"shut up." he said laughing.

"okay i'll call you later, bye." he hung up.

"what was that all about?" i asked him.

Jonah's POV

i was sitting on Sadie's bed with her when Corbyn started calling me. i picked up my phone.

"hey bro." i said.

"hey. so did you tell her yet?" he meant Sadie.

"no, i didn't have a chance to. i'm at her house right now."

"is it because you're telling her now?" he asked.

"no, not that. something's going on."

"what?"

"these men are standing outside her house so i'm with her."

"are you guys gonna fight them? are you gonna save Sadie?" he asked.

"i don't know, if they come in."

"ooooo Jadie!"

"shut up!" i exclaimed, laughing.

"tell me what happens later."

"okay i'll call you later, bye." i hung up and Sadie was looking at me with a look of confusion on her face.

"what was that about?" she asked me.

i thought it was time to tell her. she would've suspected something if i didn't tell her. so i have to get it off my chest.

"look, Sadie. i've been meaning to tell you for a while now, it's be-"

Sadie's POV

it seemed like Jonah was telling me something important, but he was cut off by another loud knock, this time it sounded more louder.

i started getting more and more scared. before i didn't even care, but now i do. they could hurt us. what if they hurt Jonah, who i care about? or even worse, me?

it felt like a force that did it, but i immediately hugged Jonah, scared of what would happen. it kind of felt like i was hugging a teddy bear. he hugged me back, like he wanted to. he was going to tell me something, but it could probably wait.

Jonah's POV

it couldn't wait. i wanted to tell her. i don't know how she would feel, even though i asked Jack if she liked me. but instead of answering he ran off. so now i don't know what'll happen when she finds out. but we have to be looking out for what happens next, whether its the two men coming in, or it's us hugging or doing something else.

without thinking, i kissed her on her head. God, why did i do that? i regretted it, afraid of what she would say.

Sadie's POV

Jonah just kissed me again. this time on my head. while i was still hidden in his hoodie, i smiled and then took my face out.

"Corbyn dared you to do it again, didn't he?"

Jonah had a look of denial on his face. he shook his head. it was awkward, but it also gave me hope that he likes me back. suddenly i remembered what he was going to tell me.

"right, so what was it you needed to tell me?" i asked.

Jonah looked at me, and hesistated for a second.

"okay. so i was too scared to let you know before, but now i need to tell you."

"tell me?"

"that-"

Ace ran into my room and jumped on my bed. he started licking my face.

"every time i'm about to tell you we get interrupted," Jonah said, he looked mad at first but then started laughing at Ace, petting his head.

"ugh i'm sorry," i said. "hey, wait! we can get Ace to help us. he's a German Shepherd, and German Shepherds are police dogs, so he could attack these men if they come in.

"that's actually a good idea!" he said.

"Ace, can you go down?" i asked him, even though he couldn't speak back.

he sat there for a second and i pointed down. he jumped off my bed and ran downstairs.

"now we have to wait for another knock." i said.

a minute later, it came.

"IS ANYBODY HERE?!"

Jonah and i looked at each other, and Ace started barking loudly at the door.

then it finally happened.

we heard the door break open, and the voices got louder. i let out a small scream and Jonah hugged me. i could hear Ace growling and barking at them.

"stay here, i'll be right back." Jonah said,

"no!" i yelled.

"i'll be fine, i'm not going downstairs. it'll be okay."

he went outside of my room and put his head over the railing to see what the guys were doing. he quickly ran back into my room, closing and locking the door.

"Ace is trying to bite them right now. and they're holding this long stick in their hands."

"omg what if they hurt him?" i didn't want my dog to die, he's been by my side since i was 5, and now i'm 17.

"i know, he's been here for 12 years. remember when you first got him and i came over and he pooped in my shoe?"

"you remember that? i thought i was the only one!" we started laughing really hard.

"and remember when he was like 6 months old and he was sleeping with me and the next morning i woke up my bed sheets were ripped all over?" i said.

"yes! and your mom didn't buy a new one for a month!" he laughed.

we were both laughing super hard when we heard a loud cry. it didn't sound like Ace, and i prayed that it wasn't him. Jonah and i opened my door and ran to the railing, and one of the mens' hand was bleeding. Ace was still growling at the other one.

"did Ace seriously bite that guy?" Jonah asked.

"no, while you were talking to me my clone went down and bit him."

"okay, i'm not dumb." Jonah laughed.

"really?" i teased.

i suddenly remembered that there were two armed men standing one floor below us. i grabbed Jonah's hand and we ran back into my room, locking the door behind us.
