around 6pm, i heard the doorbell ring.

"Sadie, can you get that?" my mom yelled from upstairs.

"yeah it's Jonah we're taking the dogs for a walk!"

i went downstairs and opened the door to see Jonah standing on the front porch, holding his yellow lab Sawyer on a leash.

"hey." he said.

"hi loser!"

"oh-"

"okay let me get Ace then we'll go." i went up to my room and went up to Ace who was lying on my bed.

"hey buddy you wanna go for a walk?" i said, scratching his ears. his ears went up the second i said the work "walk". he jumped off my bed and ran downstairs to Jonah and Sawyer.

i grabbed his black leash from the hook beside the door and walked out behind Jonah.

"so, we still doing tomorrow?" Jonah asked as we were walking.

"yeah, i'm pretty sure. and we're going to chipotle thanks."

"then can we get starbucks after?"

"oo yeah."

"yes!" he exclaimed. i laughed at his immaturity.

i suddenly felt a pull on Ace's leash and saw that he was trying to go faster because the park was ahead. then Sawyer copied him.

"woah! chill out Ace!" he started barking.

"why do we have such big dogs?!"

"no clue. i mean Sawyer grew up really fast, and Ace's age isn't stopping him from doing things so it's all my parents because i was like three when we got him, so?"

"right."

after we got to the park we let the dogs off their leashes so they could run around. Jonah and i sat down on a free bench and i looked at him and remembered the big bruise on his arm.

"so, how's your arm? does it still hurt as much?" i asked.

"well it hasn't really changed since the morning, but it's getting better i guess?"

"yeah i kind of got a bruise too."

"really? is it big?"

"no." i rolled up the sleeve of my shirt.

"wow. and how did it even happen, though? like we just fell on the ground and i don't know why they admitted me into the hospital it was nothing. just a bruised arm."

"that's true, but they thought you had a concussion or something because of how hard you landed on the back of your head. dumb hard floor."

"yeah Sadie why's the floor of your house so frickin hard?" he laughed.

i shrugged, smiling.

"so. what do w-"

"i keep thinking about this morning." Jonah cut me off, looking ahead.

i stared at him and he stared back.

"i don't know why, i know we were supposed to move past that but i just can't get it out of my head."

"me too actually." i said.

"like i feel like i was waiting for it to happen, if i'm being honest."

"yeah like it's funny we've both liked each other all these years and didn't even know it. it's funny."

"and i thought it was hopeless because we see each other almost every day and i never thought it'd happen because we've been so close but, here we are."

"yeah that's what i used to think."

and maybe this morning will happen again?
