as Emma and i sat down at our desks in History class, she moved her chair towards me until class started.
"wow, you really went off on Assilon." she said.
"haha, good one." i laughed. "but seriously. not only is she annoying, but she's so rude. she's the Regina George of our school."
"yes! exactly!"
"i wonder what you're gonna do next. threaten me about Jonah?"
"if she does, don't worry. you have us and the boys."
"yeah, i'm so lucky to have you all. but i just wish Jonah was here, even though he's only been gone for like a day. and now i have to wait another week. because i didn't get punched."
"Sadie, i know you love Jonah. and yes, you do, probably only as a best friend right now. but what if it actually was you? you want to get punched? you want a black eye and another bruise on your arm?" Emma put her hand on my shoulder. "you're too selfless, especially with Jonah. and don't worry, he's fine, he's recovering just fine."
i sighed.
"i'm being annoying, aren't i?"
"no! this is what it's like, to like someone. or even to love them. except for when you liked that nerd."
i burst out laughing. "oh my god! eww!!!!"
"what was his name? Arthur? Bob?" she laughed.
"what the hell! i don't even remember. why. the. frick. did. i. like. him?! i'm sorry, but he actually looked like Arthur. the aardvark cartoon thing! but his hair was so bad! and his glasses were the weirdest shape. gosh! what the hell was wrong with meeee?! was i blind?"
"HAHAHAHA ARTHUR! and he was obsessed with dinosaurs and star wars! an eleven year old!"
"HAHA YES I REMEMBER!" we both started cracking up.
"i always questioned your crush on him. when you told me you liked him, i literally thought you were joking, because that's what everyone said, but as a joke! but then when i always noticed you looking at him, i was just like, 'shit, she's serious'."
"HAHAHA!"
"but this year, you've done muuuch better."
"thanks, teacher." i laughed.
"you get an a+, Ms. Foster!"
"wow, i frickin' wish i actually did." i laughed.
"but i bet like every girl in the grade likes Jonah, or any of his friends."
"yeah! i have to admit, they're all the cutest and sweetest boys in the grade! especially him." i laughed.
"true. mostly Daniel."
i started laughing. "yeah, i guess i agree."
"ugh. but Assilon, that ass. she better know that Jonah likes YOU, and that's for sure, because of the fact that his best friends told you."
"yeah, she better know. she can go find Arthur Bob and date him. wherever he is. at the nerd expo."
Emma started cracking up.
"you girls are always laughing at something." Daniel said, walking into the classroom and smiling. Emma immediately stopped laughing.
"hey! what are you doing here? i thought you had Science now."
"no, i asked to switch the times, because my Science class was getting wayy too full." he said, putting his books down at the desk in front of mine.
"hey, Emma." he said, smiling.
"hi." she said, smiling back. she looked at me with her eyes wide.
"yes!" she mouthed. i laughed.
"see, there's the laughing again."
"we were just talking about my sixth grade crush. making fun of him, actually."
"Jimmy?"
"yes! that's what his name was!" Emma said.
"what did you guys think it was?"
"um, like Arthur, or Bob. and how do you remember? how do you even know?" i asked.
"Jonah." he laughed. "you know, he tells us everything. he made fun of him too, mostly because he was kind of jealous."
"jealous? six years ago?"
"yeah? what do you mean?"
"Jonah was jealous in grade six?"
"yeah, Sadie. that's what he said." Emma told me.
"so he liked me even back then?"
"um. well. yeah. i can tell you now, since it was a long time ago."
"i kind of liked him then too. i don't know why i ever liked that Jimmy kid, but i don't think he ever beat Jonah as my crush, so."
"so you liked him too?"
"kind of, yeah."
"wowww it's been going on for the longest time and things are actually happening now? they could've happened like even back then or at least 5 years ago." Emma said, laughing.
"well i never knew he liked me back."
"yeah. you're dumb. Maddie and i kind of knew."
"why didn't you guys tell me?!?"
"because we weren't completely sure. and if we were wrong, we would've gotten your hopes up."
"true." then the bell finally rang.
"okay girls stop talking or Mr. Smith is going to yell at you guys." Daniel said, sitting down in his desk.
"haha thanks for looking out for us, Dani."
"sure. after all, i have to look out for my best friend's girlfriend and her best friend."
"shut your mouth! i'm not his girlfriend..." i exclaimed.
"why are you getting mad? you will be soon." he laughed.
"trueee." Emma said.
"okay stop talking or Mr. Smith is gonna yell at you guys!" i mocked. Daniel and Emma laughed and sat back in their desks.
