when Emma, Maddie, and I walked into the gym we were told to sit down on the floor since dance module didn't require us to change into our gym clothes. the coaches waited until most of the class was sitting down.

"okay, so as all of you know. or at least most of you. we will be starting dance module today. we won't be assigning partners, but do make sure you pick someone who you'll focus with."

"pffft. yeah, as if people are gonna listen." Jonah whispered to me.

"we're also gonna be moving onto slow dancing. so be ready for that on Tuesday."

"okay. so you guys can start choosing your partners now. and if you can't dance with someone who isn't the same gender as you, you may dance with your same gendered friend as long as you'll cooperate."

everyone got up and started walking across the gym.

"hehe my partners already beside me!" Jonah said enthusiastically.

"yep." i said.

"what the hell? who am i supposed to be partners with?" Emma complained.

"yo isn't Daniel in this gym?" Jonah asked.

"no he's no- ohhhh," she turned around and noticed him. "where'd he come from? wasn't he not in gym the other day?"

"yeah i think he had an appointment after lunch or something. but you forgot he was in our gym?" i laughed at her.

"i guess so. and how does he know?!" she whispered to me, talking about Jonah.

"um."

"frick you!" she said. "well gotta go collect my dance partner lolz see ya!"

"i ship." Jonah teased.

"no, me too actually!" i agreed.

"but i kinda ship us mor-"

i elbowed him before he could finish his sentence.

"okay class. now find a good spot in the gym where you aren't too close to another pair."

everyone found a good spot that wasn't too crowded or claustrophobic. i saw Emma with Daniel, who smirked at me because she 'got him' and saw Maddie with Jack G. she gave me a peace sign from across the gym and i just gave a weird smile back.

"i wonder what songs they're gonna give us." i said to Jonah.

"yeah, same. they better be good though."

"they better. and you sure your arm is good?"

"yeah it's fine. doesn't really hurt anymore."

i nodded as one of the coaches started speaking again.

"so i don't know if you guys know how to slow dance. so we're gonna demonstrate like we do every year."

the boys had their hands on the girls' waists and the girls had theirs on the boys' shoulders, which was the expected pose.

the women and men coaches got together so they could show us what to do. they kept doing too many things at a time which was causing Jonah and i to step on each others shoes.

"can you not? i just cleaned these you dummy!"

"well it's not my fault this shit's confusing!" he whisper yelled.

"this does not require any talking." a coach called out.

"oops." Jonah awkwardly smiled.

"next, you're gonna do a forward step, then a back step. then sideways." (sis idfk how to slow dance i've never been married sorryy)

"you find this confusing?" i laughed at Jonah.

"yeah! we've never done this before."

"well no one else seems confused."

"stop making fun of me. i'm not that smart."

"not that smart? you're one of the smartest people in the grade!"

"isn't that Corbyn?"

"oh yeah oops. then you though. and Zach's last, obviously." (i'm jk zek is smart sry zek luv u)

"oof."

"okay shut up we're gonna get our asses whooped if we keep talking." i said.

"oh right."

we all continued practicing the steps so we could finally move on to the actual dancing, which was what i've been waiting for.
