Divergent High

Chapter 1

Tris's POV 

I woke to the sound of my alarm beeping 

I groaned as I sat up in bed and turned the annoying noise off 

"Time to get up" My twin brother said barging in

"How many times do I have to tell you to knock!" I asked, rubbing the sleep out of my eyes 

"and how many times do I have to tell you, we are twins so there is nothing I don't know about you so I don't see the point" 

"Caleb get out of your sisters room!" My mum called

"Thanks mum" I say as I make my way into the kitchen 

"No problems sweetheart" She said, kissing the top of my head as I sat down at the table for breakfast 

"I can't believe it is the first day back at school" Caleb said "the holidays flew by so quick"

"Yeah" I agreed 

As the warm water of the shower washed over me, I noticed the feeling in my stomach I thought was hunger was actually dread 

dread of seeing him

Tobias's POV

I woke up to the sound of my parents arguing 

As I turned to get up, I noticed my sister still sound asleep,  in my bed 

She must have snuck in again I thought before placing a kiss on her forehead 

I made my way into the shower and as I ate my breakfast I really didn't want to go to school but there was nothing knew about that 

At least their are hot girls their  I thought

I really couldn't care about school, all I needed was a sports scholarship and I would be fine 

My sister was finally up and ready and so we got in my car and I drove us  to school 

We were in the same year now as I failed last year, it is weird recently turning 19 but still not having finished high school 

We arrived and as we walked through the front gates we went our separate ways 

She ran over to Tris and Christina and I went over to Zeke, Uriah, Marlene and Lynn 

I no she never talks about are parents arguing and neither do I but I see it affecting her day in and day out 

A smile comes to my face as she smiles and laughs with her friends

I see Christina scowl in my direction and Tris tries to pretend I am not there but I guess that is my fault

Tris POV 

Kate meets up with me and Christina before class 

She is my only other friend besides Christina 

I see Tobias looking at us, he is standing with the 'popular' kids of our year

I notice Christina scowl at him but I just ignore him 

He isn't worth my time 

When I was in year 8, he was close with the kids in the popular group, most of which are gone now since he was in year 9 at the time, and in one final attempt he bumped into me at the canteen causing me to drop my sandwich, still unstopped and wrapped in glad-wrap.   He scooped up the sandwich and ran of

I just stood there, shocked. He lived in my neighborhood an I had always thought of him as kind but reserved and quiet but ever since that day, everyone has called me stiff  

His friends would over bump into me during the transitions of classes saying things like "watch where your going stiff"

It was almost time for class and as his group walked past one of them called

"Better hurry up stiff or you will be late to class"

"Just ignore them" Christina said 

"I am fine, used to it actually, still doesn't lessen my hate for them though" Tris said 

"Tobias isn't that bad" Kate said 

"I know he's your brother and all but lets be honest he is a jerk" I said

"I guess" Kate shrugs

I feel awful putting Kate in this situation so I decide to change the topic

"anyway we better get to the'best class of the day'" I say sarcastically

We have calculus first up and we all hate it, even though we do kinda understand it,  it still isn't the most exciting

But if  I want to be a vet I need to do calculus I remind myself  and save up as much as I can 

My mind drifts to Tobias as a kid: quiet, reserved, observent and perceptive 

He is still those thing there is just a few, nastier words added to the list now
