"Rose, wait up!"

I turn around. I see Destiny, one of my best friends, running to catch up beside me. He tries to catch his breath for a moment, and then speaks again.

"You ran off so quickly, I didn't get a chance to talk to you in the hall."

Destiny is very good looking. He has wavy, thick brown hair. He has these creamy hazel eyes that make you just want to hug him. It's a pity he can't get a date. He's shy around other girls.

I laugh. "Sorry, I wanted to finish up my homework quickly so we could go to the docks."

We had planned to go tonight, because stargazing is one of our favorite hobbies together. When we were younger, we always liked learning about the stars from my mother, who was an astronomer. That was before she died in a plane crash. Des still liked going with me, because he knew how much it meant to me.

Des bit his upper lip. "Sorry, Rosie, but I can't go tonight."

I stared up at him curiously. "Why not?" I decided to make a joke out of it. "Big date tonight?"

Des responded "Something like that."

I stared up at him, since he was an inch taller than me. "Oh, that...that's too bad." I didn't want him to see how sad I was. We always went Friday night to the docks together. Always.

"Oh, Rosie, don't be upset. I don't want to see you cry."

I cry easily.

" No, no.. I...It's alright Des."

"It's just that, I have to..."

I looked at him, curious once again. " Have to what? "

"Um, nothing. Just some tuba stuff."

"You hate the tuba."

"But my dad doesn't." he said as he grinned. His dad owned the only instrument store in King Waters and was determined Des learn to play these instruments so he could show it off.

"Well, okay then. See you."

"See you."

But as he walked away, I knew something other than tuba practice was going on. Which hurt me. I thought we were best friends. We told each other everything. And we always made it to Friday Night Dock Night. I always canceled whatever I had. Dates, parties, or wedding rehearsals never stopped me. I sighed. I guess I would just go home. And do homework. Wee.
