I woke up, dazed. I was still in the clothes I had worn yesterday. As I started my morning routine, all the thoughts of the night before flooded back into my brain. Ugh.
I stared down at the moonstone necklace. It was breathtakingly beautiful. But maybe I didn't want it. TWO days ago, I was a normal teenager. And now I'm some living prophecy that has to take down some mythical bad guy. Oh, joy.
I went downstairs for breakfast.
"Good morning!" My dad said, cheerfully. But I felt it was anything but.
My sister entered the kitchen, still in her pj's and her hair askew. She didn't care about presenting herself decently to us. We were family. My sister was not a morning person, that was for sure. But she was pretty. Prettier than me, that's for sure. She had blonde hair, from my dad, and the same brown eyes as me. She had very pale skin, though, that looked as if she were a vampire. This was a very interesting theory. With all that had happened in the last 72 hours, I wouldn't be surprised if my sister came down to us announcing she was going to suck our blood.
"Want some pancakes, sweetheart?" he asked Lilly. My dad was a very cheerful morning person. His black eyes gave a sparkle when he got up. I think I was somewhere in the middle between my dad and my sister on morning behavior.
My sister gave a "mhm" sound.
"Excellent! Chocolate chip pancakes for everyone!"
My sister's lifeless morning eyes looked interested at this prospect.
Soon, the smell of chocolate chips and batter filled our kitchen. We saw our dad flip the pancakes, and heard the sizzling sound the pan made. My mouth watered as me and my sister set the table.
We sat down to eat. "So, darlings, what will you two do today?" He looked over at me, since I usually gave a longer response than Lilly.
"Just heading down to the beach." See? Not a lie, at all.
"That's nice. Hope you get some air. Now that it's summer, you girls should start getting your tans and such." My dad always tried to find the motherly girl fashion thing to say. It didn't always sound right, but we liked his effort.
He turned to Lilly.
"Mall" was her one word answer.
"All right" my dad said. "How much do you need for spending?" My dad thought a big allowance should be made for shopping, since he couldn't do it with us, and he thought we were missing out on shopping with a mother. I,by no means, complained of this.
"Thirty" was my sister's response.
"Remind me later then."
As we cleared the table, I wondered what I was REALLY going to do today at the beach. Because I don't think I was going to get much of a tan. And would Des be there? Half of me wished he would, and half of me wished not.
I headed outside after I had washed the dishes. It was crazy hot, so short shorts and tied up shirts it was. I exposed my bare tummy for the first time. But, what the heck, why not turn a few heads?
As I walked down to the dock part of the beach, I heard a slapping of shoes behind me. I turned around, and saw him.
Des.
He didn't utter a word to me. Instead, he revealed the path, and waited for me to step inside. I did see he was ever gazing at my mid-section. Turn a few heads indeed.
I decided that this was stupid. If Des didn't like me that way, I was still willing to be friends. But then I heard that thought, and realized it wasn't true. But confrontation was the answer here.
