The next day, I wake up, memories of the previous night starting to flow back into my brain, as the clouds of morning drowsiness start to fade from my mind. Today was going to be one of the busiest days of my life. Set on repeat, no doubt. I took a quick shower.
I looked in the mirror and shrieked. Serious bed-head! I grabbed my hairbrush and comb and started to rapidly and fiercely try to get all the tangles out. That done, I looked at myself in the mirror. Hmmm...
I put up my hair, and put a pink sparkly clip on the side. Good enough. I brushed my teeth and went downstairs.
I only found Lilly at the kitchen table, eating cereal. Very, very slowly.
"Where's dad?" I asked.
I only got a grunt in reply.
I cocked out a hip and placed my hand on it. I stared into her wary morning eyes, HARD.
"I'm waiting for a real answer."
She sighed, loudly. Then, she said in a sleepy, fast voice "He's working early."
"Thank you" I said, plopping down at the table, pouring myself some cereal and milk.
We ate in silence, which was how it usually is when dad's not around to lighten up the place. It was a comfortable silence though. I knew it wasn't all the time we got silence like this.
I started to think, about the training, about school, and about Des. Mostly Des.
"Aren't you going to finish that?" Lilly asked me, her voice now sounding more woken up. I looked down at my cereal, the cereal soggy, the milk having turned a different color with little pieces of cereal floating in it. Yuck. I threw out the mess into the garbage and then put my bowl into the sink. I looked up at the clock. 7:27 AM. Almost time for Vicky to pick us up.
I looked over at Lilly.
"Come on, I don't want to be late because of you."
Lilly left her equally disgusting breakfast on the counter. I went into the entrance hallway and sat on one of the little benches we have there. I cradled the moonstone in my necklace, the stone cool between my fingers.
Lilly came down the stairs, looking slightly more awake than before.
"Okay, I'm good. Let's hit the road."
We grabbed our bookbags near the door and waited on the porch for Vicky's car.
After about 10 minutes, Vicky's Chenty Ultra pulled up.
We walked over to the car and got in. I decided to ask about Vicky's date, wondering why she hadn't called me.
"So, how was it?" I asked, firsthand. Me and Vicky usually skipped the greetings. When you've been friends for so long you don't need to be polite.
I looked over at her, and she lit up. "It was great!!! I loved it, he was so sweet, I had a great time and..." she rambled, then stopped for breath.
I laughed. "Breathe, girl, breathe."
She laughed as well. "Riley is the best boyfriend ever!"
I looked wide-eyed at her. She smiled. "He asked you?"
"Yes!! I feel so lucky!"
"Vicky that's great!"I laughed.
She laughed as well. Then, she looked at me during a red-light. Suddenly, she appeared curious.
"Your necklace is so PRETTY! Where'd you get it?"
"Oh" I said. DAMMIT! Umm.... think, Rosie, think! "I bought it somewhere. Like at one of those no-named shops. I even forgot where it was."
