Change. Kim Seokjin was facing change. Originally the change had been the engagement to his long-term girlfriend, but it seemed that Fate had other plans... Fate, or maybe it was just her. Either way, the change he was facing now was a lot different to the change he had planned.

"Babe, stop packing. Just talk to me-"

"I tried to talk to you, many times now! But did you listen? No, no!" Hana, Seokjin's girlfriend, cried, throwing some of her belongings into a suitcase. Seokjin watched it get fuller and fuller, wondering why he wasn't getting sadder and sadder. Maybe it was because he still thought she would stay. Maybe it's because he was tired of the relationship - the constant disagreements and fighting, the hurtful words and painful tears. It was too much at this point. "In fact, I tried to talk to you this morning and you brushed me off by telling me that you need to go to work!"

"That's because I do need to go to work, I can't just not go because you decided that now was the best time for a shouting match," Seokjin grumbled the last bit, but Hana heard him clearly.

"I- I can't even believe you! You don't even sound upset that we're breaking up, you just sound... well... tired!"

"That's because I am tired!" Moaned Seokjin, turning to face a wide-eyed Hana. "All we ever do nowadays is fight, and nine times out of ten it isn't me who has a problem. I love you Hana, I really do, but it's clear that I love you more than you love me. I understand that maybe I'm not being the best boyfriend at the moment, but it's so difficult when you're constantly zapping my motivation for this relationship. You only enjoy yourself when you're nowhere near me and this apartment, you've clearly lost your love for this, for us, for me- God, I can't believe I was so stupid as to think about marrying you." The last bit silenced Hana, who started to shift slightly.

"You- you thought about asking me to marry you?" She whispered after a moment of silence.

"Yes. I bought you a ring and everything," said Seokjin, replying truthfully because there was no point in lying at that moment. He might as well tell her what she was walking away from. Maybe it was selfish of him, but he couldn't let her go without her knowing how serious he had been about them, without her losing sleep over a future that would never be.

"A ring..." Hana trailed off, still staring with wide eyes at Seokjin. He used to love those eyes. He used to think they were the most beautiful things on the planet. He guessed that Hana's love for him wasn't the only thing that changed, then.

"But it doesn't matter anymore," Seokjin said, before Hana could speak. "You said it yourself - we're in the midst of a breakup, and I'm late for work. So please, don't make this difficult."

"As if you didn't just make it difficult!" Hana cried out, biting down on her lip as fat tears started to well up in her eyes. "You bought me a ring, you- you were going to propose to me!"

"Yes, I was. But Hana, don't let it sway you. You're clearly not happy with me anymore, a ring shouldn't change the way you feel. I don't want to offer you the rest of my life if you were going to leave me in the first place. Maybe in a parallel world somewhere, that ring is sitting on your finger right now, but in this one it isn't. Thank you for the past few years, but it's time we called quits, Hana. Wouldn't you agree?"

Jungkook's leg was bouncing with nervous anticipation, his eyes flitting around the waiting room of the hospital. Originally, he had stormed in and demanded to know where Doctor Kim Seokjin was, but the receptionist replied calmly that he wasn't in yet and that if Jungkook wanted to see him that desperately, he should be free for the first hour of his shift, but he would have to wait until the doctor arrived. Jungkook nodded and turned around, tugging on Taehyung's arm and pulling him over to some empty seats at the side of the waiting room.
