Corine woke up, she hated this feeling forever, only to be tied up again but this time none other than Riddle himself. She bit herself in the lips, half to suppress all the emotions welling up in her and half to make sure she wasn't dreaming.
Why is this happening?
"You are awake," Riddle said, smiling, still cruelly.
Corine felt blank. "What is this all about?"
Riddle looked solemn but still answered. "Sigh... Business with my... partner and my dreams come true. Nothing personal on you, though." He added but Corine did not really believe.
Not anymore.
"Dreams?" Corine asked.
Riddle looked at Corine, no, what she was holding.
Wait, the sword.
Corine snapped herself out and access the situation better.
Then she realised the situation she was in.
She was trussed up at a chair in the same room, the tablet between her and Riddle. She was holding the sword in her right hand and wearing the necklace while Riddle was holding a dagger with ornate decoration.
Not really his style.
Then she realised they were enclosed in a circle of... weird looking symbols almost... wait, actually similar to the tablet's.
"Wait, what is this? A ritual?" Corine said, disbelieving.
Riddle shrugged, "You can say that."
"Why?" Corine asked. She just wanted to know...
Who is this? Who once helped her? Stood by her?
Kissed her?
Why?
Riddle just shook his head and looked out a small window. It was a cloudy night. A bit of moonlight slipped into the sky, brightening it but not quite.
He turned back to Corine and shrugged. His face was emotionless.
"Why not?" A bit robotic. "We still have some time. So I can tell you what your ancestor took from mine a long time ago."
"Ancestor?" Corine asked. Riddle just looked at her blankly and then the sword.
Then, something sparked in Corine's memory. Len's story.
"Lucifer the Sorcerer?" Corine asked.
Riddle smiled and snapped his fingers. A small flame appeared between them.
"So I guess that sword told you," Riddle said.
The way he said it to Corine irked her in some way. Something in it like... a refusal to say something. She decided to test it out.
"Len? Lennard?" Corine said and the reaction was almost expected.
Riddle winced like someone tried to burn him and the flame burst into fire, growing larger, almost nearing Corine. She braved herself.
Then, it stopped. So near that she could feel the intense heat but it did not lick her. Then the fire retraced itself until it was fully extinguished. There were no scorch marks to indicate the fire.
Riddle looked murderous. "Don't say his name again!"
Corine kept silent, not even saying one word. She didn't want any fatal accidents although she knew that what may be coming might be much worse.
Riddle huffed. He looked at the sky again. "A bit more..."
He looked back at Corine. "Seriously I liked you but once I found out that you had the sword," Riddle waved off, "It ain't too hard to connect two and two. Guess that's what Volta was up to and how he died."
