I could not describe the feeling. I am pretty sure that 'i am very happy' would be an understatement. I felt out of the world.
My daughter shouted, "Nana," she got off me and started running towards her father, who stayed frozen at his place. As muffin got closer, he slowly got down on his knees. The force at which she hugged him, put him of guard, I guess, because he hugged her with one hand and kept other hand on the ground for balance.
"Nana, you come?"
He laughed slightly and said, "ofcourse, I did. Happy birthday, dear."
"I miwsed you. You come late, why?" Dev scrunched, and then said, "I wanted to come back immediately but I went to get money to treat you like princess."
"Princwes?"
"Like Elsa."She jumped and clapped. He watched her do the same with so much adoration. She suddenly stopped jumping, put her hand on her hips and said,
"You no leaving amma and me, promise?"
She stretched her hand. Dev stopped, looked up to see me and immediately looked back,
"Never again, I promise."
He put his hand over her tiny hand. He then turned her hand and kissed the back of her hand and said, "Let's go get your birthday gifts."
He lifted her swirled around. The sound of laughter mixed with his chuckles warmed my heart.I still stood there, staring at the empty space which was once occupied by my daughter and her father.
"Good Lord! He is more handsome in real life. Handsome, rich and a good father, You chose well Manu," Swetcha said.
"He is natural at it, right?" I asked.
She hummed in response.
"I think having five younger siblings trains you," I said.
She chuckled and said, " while he is at it, I want you to freshen up. No offence but you stink."
"That over used dialogue again!" I exclaimed.
She giggled. Swetcha is a sappy romantic. She still believes in happily ever afters. And she loves reading over rated romance novels. I am not against romance and happy endings, I mean who would not want one? But I know that there is a possibility that one maynot have their happy endings.I freshened up, changed into a shirt styled white kurta with black squares on it and black leggings. When I reached the hall, I saw something which made me think, 'Ah! A kodak moment'. Dev was sitting on the floor, and muffin on his laptop with a gift in her hand. She had scrunched her face in concentration to remove the gift wrapper, while Dev was guiding her. After a huge struggle my daughter removed the wrapper, and she squealed in delight clapping her hands and the gift box fell of her hand. Dev hooted and kissed her on her cheeks. The gift was long forgotten. They didn't even know what was in the gift box, for them opening the gift cover was the greatest achievement. Smiling I sat down on the steps leaning on to the railing, I watched them, till my heart was content, till my mind believed it wasn't a mirage. After a lot of 'wows','aahs','oohs' and a lot of time, they finished opening the gifts. All the members of his family had sent her gifts. He explained her who had given the gift and how she was to call them. After everything was over, they decided they will hide all of them in her room. Then she showed him her room and dolls. While they were busy exploring, they forgot about the mess they created in the hall. Sighing, I started cleaning the mess.
By the evening rolled in, Saketh bought a cake, which looked like snowflake. Of course her latest obsession with 'frozen', bought me lot of headache. But if she is happy with it, so be it. Swetcha had put together a small party, where her school friends were the only invitees. After the cake was cut and distributed, my daughter went on to introduce her father to her friends. I really did not know she missed her father so much. My muffin, who could not sleep with out describing her day to me, has barely spoken to me. She had just clung to her father. God! I really hope he does not hurt her.
Later that night, I slept alone in my room, while my daughter threw a tantrum and slept next to her father. As usual I could not sleep. I could not sleep with out Muffin or her father next to me. So I got up and went to the guest room. My daughter was sleeping on Dev's shoulder, with her hand wrapping her hand around his waist. Dev had put his hand over her tiny figure. This was so cute! It was a 'Aww' moment for me, and I did capture it, forever. After that I walked towards the bed, knelt down and took muffin's hand and caressed it. I put my head on my hand and retired for the night.
