To say I was tired will be an understatement. With all the packing and saying byes to the people who have become my family, I was drained physically and emotionally. Adding on to that, the message drained me mentally. I am so thankfull, that my daughter has grown to love my husband and his family. My husband, that sounds so foreign. With tear stained face, black circles because of sleepless nights along with the kumkum and turmeric which adorned my face, thanks to all the married women in Araku, I am pretty sure I look like.... I shudder at the thought of my own description. I am actually surprised that my daughter is not scared of me. Then again, she is busy with her Maan Babai, talking about her fairy-tales. Alya, found it very funny that Maan was entertaining muffin's thoughts, because personally he didn't believe or rather he hated fairy-tales. He finds them over rated.
We started our journey back to Hyderabad, an hour later than we expected. Maan and Anna thought that the newly weds, as in us, should be given some privacy. So, they let us travel alone, without my daughter. My daughter, that traitor chose her Babai over me. It's time I have a mother- daughter talk with her. God! My head hurts. Why does it hurt so much? Sighing I leaned on the window and closed my eyes.
"You okay?" I heard Dev ask.
"I am fine."
"Are you now?"
Sighing I opened my eyes, to look at him having a amused look.
I frowned in response."So?"
I looked at him, waiting for him to continue
"You met my entire family, officially, as a family member. What is your opinion?"
"They are nice."
Dev shook his head and said, "you can be honest, you know?"
"Except Anika's parents and Layla's mom, every one seemed good to me. At least that is what I felt."
"Anika's parents need some time, after all, their daughter's wedding was jeopardised under your supervision.'
"About that, I am sorry all that happened..."
"Don't be. I know it was not your fault."
I was beyond shocked.
"What..How..?"
"You have given me all the bills Manya, I am pretty sure someone else did change the order of the flowers. The drapes thing was your fault but that did not affect anything, so that is forgiven. It's not your mistake that someone in the caterer's family died and it's definitely not your mistake if the mandap caught fire because of short circuit. "I had nothing to say, what can I say anyway. I was just happy that he did not think that I was the reason for the things that happened in the marriage.
"What about Attaya?" He asked.
"Huh?"
"Layla's mum?"
"Oh! I don't know, she looked little..."
"Obnoxious, self obsessed?"
I chuckled, "No, I was about to say high class to me."
"She will come along. She always thought that Layla and I would get married. But Layla and I never thought about it. It's just that, in her mind, you have replaced her daughter, so she is little upset."
"Oh!"The rest of the journey, we talked about things. I told him about the bouquet. He thought first for few minutes, and said, "No one would ever come between us, unless we let them." I agreed with him.
When we reached home, I saw Tridha's car parked in the driveway. Boy! This day just gets better and better. The minute I got down from the car, she did the same and stormed towards me like raged bull. Just before she came to me, Dev stood in front of me. Oh my knight in shining armour.
"Excuse me Dev, let me have a word with your bride! I should have known, such a calculative, manipulative, money hungry...."
"Stop! Not a word Tridha. Remember you are speaking about my wife. I am sorry. It was..is my mistake. I was the one who promised to marry you and I was the one who proposed Manya. So it's my fault. It's not her fault that our past caught up on us."
"But..."
"Bhaskar Gaaru, Tridha, we would like to speak to you and explain the situation, if you will let us," Mrs.Ishwari, my Attaya said, interrupting Tridha.
Huffing, Tridha walked past Dev but stopped next to me and mumbled, "Enjoy while it lasts Manya, because I will get what is mine for sure. I am pretty sure Dev would get bored of you soon. What use are to him anyway, a nobody!"
