I was sitting on the couch in my living area, holding a cup of coffee, thinkng about and staring at.... nothing. Just then, my genius of a friend decided that it would clever to plop up on the couch making the coffee spill out of the cup....almost!
"You know, I am happy today. You know why? Ask me why"
"Why?"
"I saw how Dev woke your daughter, how he got her ready while you prepared and fed her breakfast. Then, he went to drop her off to school while you waved her off from the window! It's so domestic you know?"
"I did not wave her off from the window."
"Whatever! I was just trying to get an effect."
I rolled my eyes in response."Okay! That's it. What crawled up your ass and died?" She asked.
"You know, I would have killed you for using that language, if my daughter was here."
"But she is not here, sooo?" she prompted.
"He proposed me for marriage."
And before I could tell her not to shout, she squealed, fisting her hand, squeezing her eyes."That's awesome."
"No. It is not."
"Why not, Manu?"
"You of all the people will know my reasons. A marriage with out love. A Marriage which is forced.."
"No Manu! He was not forced, not really. A forced person cannot love his daughter like he does. I am sure you noticed that too."
"Exactly!" I said my voice raising an octave. "He loves his daughter. A Marriage for his daughter's future. I doubt he really thought about us. Fine! I marry him. We would adjust with each other. But for how long? How long before he realises that I am not worth the trouble? How long before he realises he would have better future with a better person? How long before realises that I come with a baggage and he is better off without me?" I whispered.
Swetcha sat next to me and held my hand, before saying, "He loved when you didn't believe in love. He stayed by you when you had no hope. He accepted you with your baggage, long back Manu. Remember, he is the same Dev whom you waited for four years and believed that he will come. The same one who chased away all your nightmares. He is your Dev."
"That is the thing! He is not my Dev, he is Adrith Dev Vallabhaneni, the C.E.O of entire Vallabhaneni groups. He is not the same person, he is so guarded. I cannot understand him, I don't know what is going on his mind. It's like he is not only forgotten about us, it's like he is forgotten about a part of him."
"You know Manu, you were lucky. He walked in to your life when you were running away from it. He made you laugh. He made you open up. He made sure that you lived your life. He did everything for you. So what did you do? If he made sure you fell in love with him and forgot about it, you make sure he remembers his love for you. Marry him and let him fall in love with you, so deep, that not even the Almighty can erase you off his memory."
"You think I can do it?"
"He fell in love without you doing anything. Now you can do anything to make that happen again. You can do sweet talk, cook good food, share his responsibilities, hell you can even seduce him, and it won't be wrong."
I laughed at that.
"You are right.""When I am ever not. And, don't think about LASYA CELEBRATIONS, I will manage it."
"And here I thought, you were being a good friend, you gold digger."
She giggled, not truly offended. After few seconds we heard the knock on the door.
"Do you think your hero is come back?"
