Brent POV
"Is Jackson coming over?" I ask Faye as I carry the groceries in. "No, he's staying at work late today." She takes her shoes off and follows me in the kitchen.
I pull my sleeves up and wash my hands. "I'm going to put onions and a few mushrooms in the lo mein to give it a little more flavor." She comes up beside me, "I want to watch you cook." I nod my head as I wash off the meat, "Okay, that's fine by me."
I start preparing the food and she sits on the counter and watches me cut up the chicken and vegetables. "Who taught you how to cook?" I look at her and then back down, "My mom used to cook all the time and I would just watch her cook. I cooked my first meal when I was ten and the only bad thing about it was that I added to much spice to it."
An hour later
"The food is now finished. I'll make your plate." She nods her head, "I'll get our drinks." I make our plates and set them on the table. She pours our drinks and sits down, "Tell me what you think." She takes a spoonful, "It's actually good."
I drop my head and laugh, "I thought I would at least get a smile out of you." She looks at me and then at her food.
The oven goes off and I stand up, "I have one more thing." I get the brownies out and set them in the middle of the table. Her eyes widen, but she doesn't smile. At least her eyes are telling me something different.
"You found the ones I wanted?" I nod my head, "Yeah, I looked one more time and found the last box." She reaches towards the pan, "It's hot! Don't touch it, let it cool down." She moves her hand from the pan and looks at her food.
I take a sip of my drink, "I didn't mean to yell, I just didn't want you to burn yourself." She shrugs her shoulders, "I rather you yell at me than me burning myself."
I look at her, "What do you want tomorrow?" She shrugs her shoulder, "It doesn't matter to me." I show her a small smile, "I'm going to make us a finger food. You look like you haven't had a burger in a while. I'll make us some pizza burgers tomorrow."
She arch her eyebrow, "Pizza burgers? What is that?" I look at her with wide eyes, "What do you usually eat?" She shrugs her shoulders, "I usually eat from expensive restaurants or Jackson would sometimes cook. But that's like once in a blue moon."
"You will be trying a lot of new things while I'm around." I see her look at the brownies and I laugh, "You can get some brownies now. I think they're cool now." She quickly grabs a brownie and bites it.
"It tastes different from the ones in the store." I take a bite and shrug my shoulders, "I added something in myself. Is it not good?" She shakes her head, "It's good."
I stand up and pick up our plates and put them in the sink. "We can take this for our lunch instead of buying our food." She looks at me, "Would it taste as good?" I look at her and laugh, "Of course it will."
She looks up at me, "How can you smile so much?" I start washing the dishes and she helps me clean, "I don't know, wouldn't it be depressing if I were to not smile?" We finish cleaning and she takes a few more brownies.
"Well I'm going upstairs now, I'm glad you liked dinner." She nods her head and takes a bite of her brownie, "It was good, I can't wait to taste tomorrow's dinner." I look at her with wide eyes and she looks at me with an arch eyebrow, "What? Why are you looking at me like that?"
I shake my head, "You never show your emotion. I want to know what you look like when you smile. I've only seen you mad, I also seen you pout two times already." She rolls her eyes, "I don't pout."
I let out a soft laugh and head upstairs to my room. "Goodnight, Ms.Faye." She lets out a groan, "When are you going to subtract the formality. Just call me Faye. Do you not feel comfortable with me or something?" I shake my head and she rolls her eyes, "I don't care, I'm going to bed."
