CHAPTER NINE

Goddammit, she looked so intimidating with those heels. Pretty too, in a sharp featured kind of way. Jackie felt a stab of jealousy almost immediately. Why did she have to be pretty?! The girl walked--no, strutted--up to their table, flipping straight, maroon colored hair over her shoulder with one perfectly manicured hand. Jackie could see her face clearly now, she wasn't as pretty as Jackie first thought. It was unnatural beauty; she was wearing so much makeup. False lashes and red, red lips. A kind of red Jackie had never even dared to try, fearing that with her full lips she'd look like a fish. The girl's nose was kind of large, and what was up with--Jackie shook her head. What was wrong with her?! Finding every possible flaw in a girl she didn't even KNOW. She felt so shallow. Obviously, if Josh liked her, then she couldn't be all that bad right? "Umm HELLO?" the girl was waving a hand in front of Jackie's face, "I was asking your name," her voice was sharp and controlling. Jackie blinked, flustered, "ah sorry, um I'm Jackie," she said hurriedly. She waited for Kaitlynn to say something blunt about this girl's appearance, then realized...where the hell has she been? Bathroom breaks didn't take THAT long. Jackie was about to go look for Kaitlynn when she realized the girl was talking to her again, "Soooo," she drawled lazily, "are you another one of Harry's little toys?" Harry's expression darkened, "Shut up Scarlett," he growled, "I'm not like that." Scarlett laughed, "OOOH looks like she got you a little hot and bothered didn't she?" she smirked and crossed her legs, exposing too much skin, the boys purposely looked away. Scarlett sighed, "Calm down it's a joke." But Jackie knew she'd been more than a little serious. "God you guys are so boring today," Scarlett stood up, "Where's Josh? He said he was here with you guys." Zayn sighed and gestured toward the door, "Him and Niall are having a man talk, would you not bother them if I said please?" Scarlett giggled and actually leaned down and PATTED Zayn's head like he was a puppy, "Nope, he's the only reason I'm here anyway," she stated bluntly as she walked away, "Oh by the way, nice meeting you Jane!" she called over her shoulder. It took Jackie a few seconds to register this last sentence. "Um, it's Jackie." she said with a sigh, though she doubted Scarlett heard her over the noisy restaurant. Jackie turned to the boys, "That was Josh's girlfriend wasn't it?" she sighed. They nodded quietly, "Isn't she just the SWEETEST?" The sarcasm was evident in Louis' voice. Jackie would've laughed. But she couldn't ignore the sinking feeling in her chest that Josh would never be hers.
