Lizzie
We had seen a few people now, but nothing seemed to click. Maybe they had all just been a bit too young, too excitable and unprepared. We were looking for someone a little older who would understand YouTube and be able to look after themselves if needed.
Whilst Mrs Thomas had gone to get the next person, I read over her information.
Name: Katelyn Meyers
D.O.B: April 17th 2005
Age: 13
Been a resident since: September 24th 2007I had a little bit of hope that maybe Katelyn could be the one for us. She was a good age and had been here for ten years. I was excited to talk to her.
The door creaked open, and in walked Katelyn. She had brown hair plaited over her shoulder and dark blue eyes. She smiled when she saw us.
"Hey!" She exclaimed.
"Hi Katelyn, how are you?" Joel asked.
"I'm good thanks, you?"
"Great!"
She was very polite and sensible. She sat down quietly and gave us her full attention.
"By the face you had when you came in, I'd guess you're a fan," I said.
"Well, yeah. It's kind of my little secret. It helps me get away from the noise and worries. So, yeah, you could say I'm a fan," She smiled.
"Great. I mean, if you weren't a fan it wouldn't matter, but it just helps." Replied Joel.
"So what kind of things do you like doing?" I asked.
"Well, apart from watching YouTube, I really enjoy drawing too. It's relaxing,"
"Cool! Can we see one?" I asked politely.
"Sure,"
Katelyn blushed. Maybe she had a drawing of us in there. Or maybe she was worried about what we would think of it.
She picked up a sketchbook and passed it to me.
"They're not great but you can still take a look," She said, shy.
There were a variety of drawings. There were flowers, fashion designs and there was an amazing portrait of me and Joel.
"Wow, these are really good. You have a talent there," I said, passing back the sketchbook.
"Yeah, they're really good." Joel added.
"Thank you,"
She didn't seem very confident, but this was probably the first time anyone had seen the drawings.
"What do you like to do socially? You know, with your friends." I asked.
"Um, I guess I've never really done anything for a while. I had a couple of friends when I first came here - we used to always play together and Mrs Thomas would take us to the park. But since they all got adopted, it's just been me. I suppose that's why Lauren and Eva bully me. Because I'm alone." She explained, sadly.
"Oh. Why doesn't anyone talk to you? Why do they bully you? And what do they do?" Joel asked, and he sounded pretty concerned.
"I think it was Lauren and Eva that put them off. They've been here for less time than me but they never leave each other's side. They call my room the cave and call me the giant. Apparently it's because I'm always in there, but if they thought about what they said and the way it affects everyone, they'd understand why. It doesn't always get to me now though." She sighed.
"Why would they do that to a lovely girl like you? They don't know what they miss out on." I mentioned.
"Thanks, that's why YouTube helps. It feels like someone is talking to me. Even though they're not." She laughed at the end.
"I'm glad it helps you. Well, we've been given a time limit for each person, and unfortunately it's up again. It's been really good talking to you though." I exclaimed.
"Yes, its been great talking to you." Joel added.
"Thank you, I've loved talking to both of you too, have a nice rest of your day!" Katelyn smiled.
She stood up and left. As soon as the door closed I turned around to Joel.
"I think she could be the one,"
"Yeah, I think so too. She's a good age, very polite, and she understands YouTube too. Plus, I think she could do with getting out of here." Joel explained.
"Do you think we should say that now, or see everyone else first. I don't think I'm going to change my mind though," I asked.
"Maybe we should see the last few, just so we don't make it too obvious to Katelyn, and everyone else."
I agreed. I looked down at who was coming up next, and it said Eva Sampson. I pointed it out to Joel, and he mentioned that she must be one of the people that bullied Katelyn. It made me even more reluctant to see anyone else. However, it would be unfortunate for everyone else to miss their chance and it might seem a little off to Mrs Thomas.
Why couldn't we just get Katelyn and get out of here?
