Mrs Thomas

Lizzie, Joel and Katelyn all walked out of the door and I smiled. I was really sad to see Katelyn go, but this was great for her. She'd spent ten years out of twelve here and it wasn't easy for her.

When she first came here at two years old, she didn't quite understand. She was one of the youngest. Sometimes, I would walk around and hear her shout 'mummy?' and it was difficult to hear. I really felt for her.

Then, at three, she met Isabelle and Abigail. They were twins and five, but they took her right in and they were pretty much like sisters. They got adopted when they were seven. It was difficult for Katelyn because she didn't have anyone. She would sit and play at the dolls house by herself because no one wanted to play with her.

When she was six, the local authorities gave me four iPads to help with entertainment. I gave one to Katelyn because I thought it would help her be entertained and maybe even socialise. I gave another one to a girl called Skye because she was difficult to keep occupied. I remember Katelyn would finish homeschool everyday and then go and play games on her iPad.

Lauren and Eva came when Katelyn was eight. At first they weren't interested in anyone else. They'd both come on the same day and instantly hit it off. But when they started to notice Katelyn was alone, they bullied her. I tried to talk to them but it never worked. I've always felt guilty for not saying anything, but I knew that there was nothing I could do.

Then for four years it stayed the same. I knew she watched Lizzie and Joel on YouTube. I remember her asking me to download YouTube for her and I couldn't say no. I looked through her history one day and it was all Lizzie and Joel. She loved them.

That's why I was so happy to see her go with them. I knew it was best for her. It was going to be hard for me, but it's Katelyn that's important. Maybe I could go and see her one day if I was upset. Anyway, this is a great opportunity for Katelyn and I'm very happy for her.
