Lizzie

Joel and I went downstairs, back to Mrs Thomas' office. She knew that we wanted to talk to Katelyn more. So she'd probably gathered that we wanted to adopt her. We walked in, she was expecting us.

"Hello," I smiled.

"Hello. So Lizzie, Joel, are you adopting Katelyn?" She asked.

"Yes, we would like to adopt her,"

"Great. She's a lovely girl, quiet, good age. She should slot right in!" She exclaimed.

Mrs Thomas handed us lots of paperwork, mainly legal documents but also a few just about us so that she could get in touch with us incase of any issues or forgotten items. We filled all of it out and she gave us a sheet with her information on.

"Any issues or queries, don't hesitate to get in touch," She smiled and headed to the door.

Joel ran up to get Katelyn. A few seconds later, Katelyn came out of her room with a small suitcase behind her. Joel was carrying it down the stairs, when I saw Lauren and Eva in the distance. Joel had only just reached the bottom of the staircase when Lauren and Eva approached Katelyn. I gave Joel a nervous glance.

"Why do you get adopted? You'll only just hide away in your new cave forever. Watch them bring you back tomorrow, Idiot," Lauren smirked.

"No, I won't hide in a cave. I won't need to because I don't have to avoid you two." Katelyn whispered.

"Oh right!" Eva laughed, and all of a sudden, pushed Katelyn down the stairs.

"Eva! Lauren! That's not how we act!" Mrs Thomas yelled.

Katelyn had landed in a ball at the bottom of the stairs. I rushed over, reaching out my hand to help her up. She took it, pulled herself up and dusted herself up. Mrs Thomas had been busy giving Lauren and Eva a good talking too and came back down to see Katelyn.

"She's all yours I guess," Mrs Thomas smiled. It looked like she had tears in her eyes.

"Thank you miss. You've pretty much been my mum for ten years and not once got annoyed at me for being by myself a lot. You took me in and helped me. So, thank you." Katelyn said, happily.

"Oh, Katelyn. I'll miss you. You've been here longer than pretty much anyone else, you've seen it all. I just want to thank you for staying you. You'll have a great life with Lizzie and Joel, I just know it. Here's to a new life!" Mrs Thomas pulled Katelyn into a large, motherly hug and a little tear graced her cheek.

"Here's to a new life!" Katelyn smiled back, teary-eyed herself.

I felt myself tear up too, so Joel pulled me into a hug as well. He kissed my forehead while Mrs Thomas and Katelyn said their last goodbyes. Katelyn turned around to us and smiled as if to signal that she was ready. We said thank you to Mrs Thomas and she gave us the best of luck. All three of us headed out of the door, prepared to start a brand new life.
