Joel

Today we were going to decorate Katelyn's room. It was still plain, and there wasn't much in it so we decided today was as good as any. We'd been buying some pieces to make the room more cozy, but we hadn't put them in yet.

Lizzie came running downstairs, motioning for me and Katelyn to get started getting things out of the garage. Lizzie and Katelyn got hold of a fluffy, pastel purple rug whilst I grabbed a purple bean bag chair. In case you hadn't noticed, Katelyn likes purple.

We slowly carried them upstairs, placing them outside of her room. Katelyn went and got her bedding, while Lizzie and I got a bedside table each. Once everything was outside her room, we started rearranging the furniture. We moved the bed to the other side of the room, and put the chest of drawers further back. We hung the curtains while Katelyn put the new bedding on the bed. The bedding was a dark purple that faded down into a lighter shade. Afterwards, we hung a large pink 'K' above the drawers, in between two little photo frames. There weren't any photos in the frames yet as we didn't have many good ones to put in. We settled the bean bag in a corner after building the bedside tables. We put everything in place and called it done.

"Do you like it?" Lizzie asked.

"I love it. Thankyou!" Katelyn smiled.

I smiled too. I couldn't help but smile when Katelyn and Lizzie smiled. I didn't know we needed someone else, but I feel so happy that we went ahead with the idea.

Katelyn pulled us both into a group hug.

"My room at the orphanage was nothing like this. It was plain everything, plain bedding, plain and bare walls, plain floor. This is the bedroom I always dreamed of having. I never thought I'd be able to get it."

Lizzie and I both smiled. Katelyn was getting the life she never had, and I felt amazing for being part of giving her it.

All three of us went downstairs, sitting in the living room. We had background music on while we just chatted.

"Can I make some cookies?" Katelyn asked.

"Do you know how?" I asked.

"Oh yeah. We made them twice a month at the orphanage,"

"Go ahead." I said.

Just over an hour later, Katelyn walked in. Lizzie and I were expecting little round cookies, but what Katelyn made was no where near that. There were three cookies stacked up on the plate, with different coloured icing on each. She handed the first one to Lizzie. It was a big 'L' with pink icing. The second one was mine - a large 'J' with green icing. Katelyn's had purple icing.

"Quite the baker, you are," Lizzie smiled. Katelyn laughed, as did I. We spent the rest of the night watching films on Netflix, and generally enjoying time together.
