Katelyn

I woke up, and checked the date. It was August 20th, which meant that it was roughly two weeks until school would be starting again. I didn't know if Lizzie and Joel had thought about school yet, but I really wanted to go to school and have a chance to make friends, rather than homeschool. I eventually decided that once I was up and dressed, I would talk to Lizzie and Joel about it.

I pulled myself out of bed, grabbing some leggings and a lilac t-shirt with 'daydreamer' written across the front. I got dressed, and headed downstairs for breakfast. I ate some toast and played with Meri before finally deciding it was time to talk. I headed into the living room.

"Hey, can I talk to you?" I asked, smiling.

"Of course," Lizzie and Joel sat up.

"Well, in around two weeks, school will be starting up again, and I wondered if I could go - y'know, rather than homeschool?," I breathed. Lizzie and Joel looked a little shocked.

I carried on, "I'm sorry if this has been a bit of a shock, but I feel like I have never had the opportunity to make friends and learn in the same way as everyone else, if you get me?"

"Of course Katelyn, I understand. I don't want you to feel like you're being pushed away from the outside, so if that's what you want then sure," Lizzie smiled.

"And, it is a great way to make friends and of course, learn new things that homeschool wouldn't teach you. If that's what you want, go for it," Joel added.

I was relieved. I expected Lizzie and Joel to want to keep me at home, away from more potential chances of bullying. Thankfully, they were on the same page as me. We spent about an hour looking at all of the local secondary schools, deciding which would be best. Eventually, we decided to contact one about a place, and a walk through to see what the place was like. They explained that they would be happy to give a walk through, but didn't know how many places that they had in my year. The walk through was set for the next week, where I could also get uniform. We thanked them then ended the call.

"Are you ok with that?" Joel asked.

"As okay as I'll ever be, it's all new to me!" I laughed.

We spent a little bit of time discussing what I was looking forward to, and what I was nervous about. I was nervous, I admitted that, but I was excited just to experience regular school and talk to people my age for once.

Secondary school is the school that 11 - 16 year olds go to in the UK, if you didn't know.

Also, are the chapters too short? Let me know what you think.
