Chapter Thirteen:

We got back home the next day. Angel had talked a lot about how it’s been for her and what she couldn’t wait to do and talk about. I told her a little about Gavin, I wanted to surprise her a little bit though, and kept it off my mind. One of her main abilities was seeing into the future. So I didn’t know how she got most of her visions.

She hopped off my back, “Who’s that in the house? Is that him? He’s like us!” Angel kept answering her own questions and jumped up and down. “He’s weird, I like him.” I laughed at that. We walked up to the house and she ran through the door. “Ooooh, he’s cute too.”

“Uh.” Gavin said at the sight of Angel. I giggled and came into the room with them, “H-hi Shane, who’s this?”

“Gavin this is Angel, my sister. Angel this is my boyfriend Gavin.” I smiled at calling him my boyfriend.

Angel jumped into my arms and leaned next to my ear, “He really loves you… I can see your two’s future.” She giggled before running off into the backyard. I blushed hugely and glared at her retreating back.

“Well that was sure a surprise.” Gavin chuckled and stood up to come to me. “That’s why you were gone, to get your sister?”

I nodded, “I promised her I’d bring her back once everything was safe and I kept it. But something happened while I came to pick her up.”

“What, are you okay?” he reacted immediately and tried to find any injuries. Now he found it, and like I had been, he was surprised by it. The injury hadn’t healed fully. It was like I was having a human reaction to this knife. “How come it isn’t healed?”

“I don’t know, I took one of his knifes and I’ll study it but first I want to make sure it wasn’t a poisoned knife so im cleaning it.”

He nodded and followed me into the basement where the emergency kit was. Unlike most kits, ours had all sorts of nonhuman things we might need. I took out the hydrogen peroxide and put some on a cloth. When I pressed it to the wound it stung horribly and bubbled.

I took a skin sample and put it on a slide. “it looks like it has a germ that kills the white blood cells that want to heal the wounds. Hmm…” when I was little I used to love playing with my mom’s things. I tended to make vaccines so I liked to keep them. Naming them had been funny and looking at them was fun.

My eyes skimmed them till I found ‘ninja,’ it was the one that killed every bad virus or germ. It made me feel like such a dork for having such weird names for these things. I opened the top and put two drops on the long gash on my hip.

Within seconds the wound healed and closed up to a nasty looking scar. “Well, that was interesting.” I looked over at Gavin and smiled. He rolled his eyes at me and pulled me into a hug.

But while we began to hug I started feeling strange. Everything seemed to be tunneling in and out and I couldn’t focus on anything. I tried concentrating on Gavin but it was like he was far away. Angel crashed into the basement and started yelling loudly about something. My eyes focused on her and I saw her waving in front of me and her lips read, ‘don’t fall asleep. Don’t.’ but I couldn’t it was too late now and my mind surrendered to the darkness.
