The 110th Hunger Games

The Feast

There it is, I see a table with nine little canisters with a big yellow coloured pill in each of them. I need to do this fast but sneaky so I don't attract attention to myself. I hop onto the plain and look around, blood from the fallen tributes at the cornucopia bloodbath still stains the grass, I take one last look around and then I'm off running towards the canisters.

I'm running as fast as I can and I leap over one of the podiums we all stood on before the games begun. As soon as I'm at the table my momentum doesn't stop and I run straight into the cornucopia, I snag a bag of apples and on my way out I grab one of the canisters and I also take three more of them and throw them away in the cornucopia, I'm just about to make a leave but I smack right into the girl from 12. We make eye contact for a second until she takes a swing at my calf with a hatchet, I jump back and make a retreat to the forest, thinking she won't follow me she tackles my legs and we both fall to the ground. I swing my knife at her like a crazy person which makes her retreat back a few steps, I throw one of my three remaining kunais at her but she backflips causing it to miss her and knock one of the pill canisters off the table. She smiles in relief and runs at me hatchet raised above her head for the kill, I scurry back on all fours. I close my eyes.

She's just about to deliver the final blow but she then screams. I open my eyes and to my surprise she's being held back by Alyx, she kicks and punches but it's no use he's too strong for her, I get up and ready to deliver the blow but she swings her leg back, kicking Alyx. He falls too his knees and she gets up and kicks him onto his back.

She then picks up her hatchet and starts to strut towards me again. I get into a fighting stance ready for some hand to hand combat, -I'm not good at fighting unarmed but this is my only chance- she raises her hatchet at me again, I take a deep breath.......And toss my knife straight at her. The knife jams itself in her stomach, she yelps and drops the hatchet, I'm just about to finish her off before Alyx sticks his trident through her head.

A cannon sounds and he retracts the trident leaving her to fall onto the grass. I roll her onto her back and retrieve my knife, After catching our breath Alyx and I make eye contact.
"Fancy seeing you again" I manage to say. "What happened back there with Glint, Breck and Adam?". He stares at me his faced flushed.
"Can we get out of here first?" He says "I kinda don't want to be here when everyone else shows up".
I nod and I run to retrieve my backpack and we head out into the forest again.

After walking for about half an hour we finally come to a stop and sit on a fallen tree log.
"So" I get out. "What happened that afternoon when complete chaos happened".
There's a long pause.
"Well after you went tumbling down the hill Glint and Breck were asking me to either join them or die. I shook my head, threw one of janes knives at them, it missed and Breck charged at me and he knocked me down the hill. And then I was looking for you , once I thought it was hopeless Claudius announced the feasting and I knew instantly I would find you there"

"Oh nice" I say "Have you taken your pill yet?"
"Yeah before I came to help you I did"
I realise I haven't taken mine yet, I get it out of my backpack and swallow it almost instantly.
"Ahh the feeling that I'm not gonna die a slow painful death is refreshing" I say smiling.
"I agree, I wonder who's not gonna get their pill" says Alyx.
"I have no idea but I did throw three of the canisters inside the cornucopia just to knock down our competition a bit hopefully a few people will die in four hours" I say with hope.
"Yeah hopefully, if you don't mind I'm going to get some sleep" he says yawning." I haven't slept in a day atleast, just make sure you wake me so I can keep watch ok?".
"Ok" I say, I won't risk a fire tonight" we might be able to hold off one or two people but anymore than that can result in two cannons and Alyx's and my face in the sky.
Alyx sleeps soundless and I'm starting to feel the fatigue possess my body from my hazel eyes down to the last bone in my foot......

Alyx and I both snapped awake at the same time weapons at the ready, the anthem booms all over the arena, three more people have died, the virus from the water must've kicked some tributes may have been looking hard as well because they've certainly found the canisters I threw into the cornucopia. The first to appear in the sky is the girl from district 5 the one with the bow and arrows, looks like the alliance with all those girls are breaking down; after her is the girl from district 7 the one with the chakram and the final person is the boy from 11. The anthem slows to a stop and everything is silent again.
"Final seven" says Alyx.
"They'll be interviewing our families now, since it's down to the final seven it's meant to be the final eight but the game makers can't do everything" I say back.
"Maybe" he yawns "I'm going back to sleep again".
I roll my eyes and he turns over facing the other direction.
