I woke up with a start as my heart beat fast and my breathing heavy. The light coming from the window temporarily blinded me as I tried to open my eyes. It was a Friday morning and the annoying alarm that had just started to ring reminded me that I should be getting ready to go to school. I got my startled self off the bed and headed towards the door. As I open the door, my mom was standing in front of me.
"Oh, you're already awake. Breakfast's ready so just go down when you're ready, okay?" she said. I could only groan as my head suddenly started to throb. My head was becoming somewhat of a bother but I still tried to live through this day like any other day. I heard her footsteps already going down the stairs, so I made my way towards the bathroom. I closed the door and turned the water on. I took off my clothes and stepped into the shower, but the temperature immediately made me jump away from the water.
"Too cold!" I mumbled.
'That's somewhat of a rude awakening. Can this day start off any worse?' I thought. A few seconds passed and the temperature became bearable. I quickly finished my shower and other bathroom duties and headed back to my room. I put on a pair of underwear, jeans and a plain blue shirt and headed downstairs.
"Mom, have you ever had weird dreams where you were chased before?" I asked as I sat down at the table.
"Well, no. Why? Is that the reason why you just groaned earlier?"
"Sort of. I think."
"Don't worry about those kinds of things, honey. You know dreams, they just come and go, you know?"
"Hmm... alright, mom. Thanks! I'll be going now." I said as I stood up and grabbed my backpack from the den.
"But you didn't even finish your food!" she shouted.
"I'll be alright, mom! Bye!" I shouted back as I exited the house. I got on my bike and started heading toward my school.
'What was with that dream anyway? Wait, what dream was it again?' I started to think as a sharp pain suddenly pierced through my head. I stopped for a bit as I tried to relieve myself of the headache. The throbbing eventually disappeared and I continued pedalling. I parked my bike and made my way towards my classroom. As usual, I was the last one to get to class, and exactly as I sat down, the school bell rang.
"Another class, another reason to hate school." I mumbled. This class is actually interesting, if not for our teacher. My thoughts began to wander as I started doodling everywhere on my notebook. A few minutes passed and my head started throbbing again. I grabbed at my head and started to groan as the pain increased.
"-er! Ms Parker!" I could barely hear my name being called. I looked at the teacher but the pain had dulled my sense of hearing. The pain was still increasing and it eventually became unbearable. I gathered everything inside me and screamed at the top of my lungs.
"Ms. Parker, is everything all right?" the teacher asked. I opened my eyes and looked around to see that everyone was staring right at me.
"I'm sorry, sir. I guess I'm not really feeling well right now."
"Then go to the Nurse's Office. You can rest there and get some medicine, if you didn't already know. Mr. Johnson will accompany you." he said with a mix of irritation and concern in his voice. I tried to stand up but I staggered a bit. As I tried a second time, I felt a hand help me balance myself.
"Thanks! I guess I really do need some help." I whispered as we headed toward the Nurse's Office.
"What's happened to you Mads? You were always the one who was able to take care of herself properly." he asked.
