I couldn't get myself to move. My whole body was shaking. What am I doing? I don't belong here. I buried my face in my hands as I felt the eyes of everyone else on me.
"Hey, come on." a soft spoken voice said. I looked up. I saw a pair of clear, sapphire eyes looking directly at me. It's one of the girls. She's smiling at me. Why's she smiling at me? She extended her hand.
"Come on." she repeated. I tried to extend my hand but I still couldn't move. After a couple of moments, she decided to help me up by grabbing at my shoulders and pulling me up.
"Thanks." I whispered.
"No problem! Looks like you were really shook up by that. But, we're gonna be together from now so don't get scared anymore, alright?" she said, again with that tender tone. I nodded as I felt embarrassed. She's right, though. I shouldn't be scared anymore. If I fail, there're already others who will cover for me or protect me. But even then, I should learn how to protect myself. She grabbed my hand and we followed Zeke and the others.
"So girls, now you know how a trauma patient would react." Zeke said as we caught up to the group.
"Uhh, what?" I asked.
"Hmm, trauma. You know? What you get after a frightful experience. That kind of stuff. Looks like you've tangled with a demon before." he said without breaking stride.
"How could you say that by just what you saw?" I asked.
"Yes, everyone gets scared when a demon is headed towards them, but you have a different case. Normally, people would be able to move after that dreadful experience. You were completely frozen and you almost pissed yourself. With the latter part being false." he said as he stopped and faced us. This guy was getting on my nerves. I couldn't believe that he's gonna be our mentor.
"Um, but, wouldn't that normally be the case when you've just experienced a near death situation?" the blonde girl asked.
"I knew one of you would ask that. So here's my answer: You'll know in due time." he said with a somewhat arrogant smile. This guy was really getting on my nerves. All of us just stayed quiet surprisingly. He then turned around and continued walking.
"Hey Z, where are we going exactly?" Tricia asked.
"Well, since I don't really know where these girls are gonna stay, we're just gonna head over to my house."
"Your house? You still live with your family, right?"
"Yup! But since my mother and sisters are on vacation, it's just me and my dad at home, so I'm pretty sure that we can all stay there until tomorrow." he said. It's just a short walk from the church to his house. We arrived at his house, but it seemed empty.
"Um, sir? Why does this house feel empty?" the brown haired girl asked.
"I think my dad's still at church. Either that or he's too shocked to know that I actually have powers or something like that. Oh right, you can sit down wherever you like." he calmly said. We sat down on the couch while he stayed where he is.
"Wait a minute, you keep your powers a secret to your family?" the other black haired girl asked.
"Who doesn't?" he said with a serious face.
"But then, how will you face your dad later?" I asked.
"Like normal, and hope for the best." he said with an obviously forced smile. Looks like someone has dad issues. We stayed quiet at his words. An awkward silence it is.
"Anyway, excuse me for a bit as I'm just gonna change into something more comfortable." he said as he headed upstairs. All of us just stared at each other. None knowing what to do.
