Lena drove in silence, biting at her lower lip, Kara watched her cautiously convinced that any moment she would break the skin of her lip, and warm blood would come pouring out, until today Kara would have said she needed that as proof of Lena's never present humanity, but she was different today. Today she had some kind of emotion in that house, in Rhea's house. Lena pulled into the precinct, stopping just outside of the main entrance.
"I want that paperwork finished by tomorrow." Lena warned, turning to face Kara, her emerald eyes begin to water, and Kara could tell she was close to tears. She nodded not knowing what else to say to the brunette, she knew that the last thing Lena would want was for her to draw attention to her declining emotional state.
"See you tomorrow!" Kara said cheerfully, deciding to just avoid that whole situation completely. As soon as Kara shut the car door Lena sped away, not looking back once, at least she had someone to go home to. To talk about her problems and feelings with, she had already made it quite clear that her and Kara would not have an open relationship in the slightest. If you could even call it a relationship to begin with.
Kara sat herself back down at her small corner desk, covered head to toe in paperwork, she had no idea how she was meant to finish all of this by tomorrow.
***********************************************************************************************
"Rise and shine Blondie!!!" Lena shouted slamming the palm of her hand into the desk, almost causing an earthquake on the little desk. Kara fell off of her seat in fright, landing heavily on the floor. Kara staggered to her feet, yawning heavily, before noticing that the precinct was buzzing around her with people. She must have fallen asleep while doing paperwork last night, and by the looks of it she hadn't even managed to get it all finished. "Come on we're going to the research lab, I want to look over some more information around Mike." Lena ordered, before pushing a coffee into Kara's hand and swaggering down the hallway, sipping half heatedly at her own. Kara just stood, like she was stuck to the floor, still dazed after being awoken so sharply by a very loud Lena, who wasn't as angry to see a probably drooling Kara sleeping on the job. "Blondie!!" Lena shouted again, pulling Kara out of her daydream as she made her way down the hall behind the brunette, and she would be lying if she said she wasn't enjoying the view, at least a little bit.
Lena gestured to Kara to sit down at the main table in the room, sometimes used to host conferences when the other rooms were in use. Lena stood at the board, like a college lecturer, whiteboard pen in hand ready to scribble down everything they knew about Mike so far. Kara had been waiting to do one of these, what was known on the force as a "who's next board?" Usually in random instances of homicide such as this one, there is usually more than one casualty, and thats what Lena was planning on looking for, the pattern.
"Okay so what do we know so far?" Lena asked, creating a spider diagram in the board.
"Mike was possibly involved in criminal activity..." Kara began, not sure exactly where she was taking this point.
"Yes! Good! and?" Lena said encouragingly and Kara thought for a split second that she had seen a small grin grace her face, even her dark emerald eyes lit up with passion and Kara imagined what it must feel like to be looked at with those eyes. She would have done anything under that glare.
"And...That means he might have betrayed them, giving the other members of the gang a motive for murder!" Kara answered enthusiastically, Lena clicked her fingers, spinning around to circle a couple of well etched out words.
"Good! So what we need to do is figure out exactly who Mike was involved with!" Lena said, just as her phone buzzed in her blazer pocket.
"Like romantically?" Kara questioned.
"In any way really, everyone is a suspect at this point." Lena clarified as she pulled up the text message on her phone, Kara nodded, already thinking about how to get names of people in the gang, maybe going back to Rhea would be the best plan of action? Lena slammed her hone down on the table with such force it was a miracle she never broke it in two, Kara jumped, yelping slightly at the sudden aggression that the brunette was displaying.
"Lena what happened?" Kara asked, she was about to reach for Lena's hand to try and show some sort of support before she thought better of it.
"James cancelled our date-" Before saying anything else Lena checked herself, turning to face Kara with eyes of thunder. "Its none of your business Blondie, just find a way to get the names!" Lena growled deeply, sending shivers down Kara's spine. Lena began to storm out the room, before Kara jumped to her feet.
"Wait!" Kara shouted, which brought Lena to a swift halt, "I think we should ask Rhea, his mother, she might know something" Kara explained, Lena was quiet, not saying a word which just made the blonde even more nervous.
"Fine, lets go."
