Katies POV
"Hayes? Did you hear that?" I asked into the darkness.
"You should know that there are a lot of noises in this house." he murmured against my hair. I had fallen asleep against him the day after my beating, and he seemed to be enjoying it, despite our situation.
"But that sounded like a door being slammed." I protested, turning around to face him.
"Katie, it was probably just-" Hayes was cut off by a loud shout.
"Put him with the others!" I heard Crischen shout. I stared at Hayes and stood up slowly. Hayes came up next to me and held my hand. I squeezed his a little, then I spoke up.
"Are you all awake?" I asked the crowd. I heard several grunts and "yeah"s. I sighed and sat back down. Hayes sat behind me and wrapped his arms around me. I leaned against his shoulder and closed my eyes. Shawn is dead. I need to love again. I thought to myself.
I was utterly shocked when the door swung open and a limp body was flung to the bottom of the stairs. I shot straight up and ran as quickly as I could over to the body. The face was not recognizable because of the amount of bruises and cuts it had on it. I felt a small tears flow out of my eye when I saw a bracelet I'd given to only one person on the bodies' wrist. My face contorted into pain and slight relief that Shawn was here, whether he was alive or not, I got to see him once more. I picked up his wrist and felt for any sign of a pulse. My eyes grew wide and I covered my gaping mouth with my free hand.
"He's... he's alive." I whispered to no one in particular. I felt the presence of a crowd beginning to form around me and looked at them through tear-filled eyes. "This is Shawn. I gave him this bracelet. He's alive. He has a pulse! Help me lift him. My chains aren't long enough to move anymore." I pleaded. No one moved. I stared at them with a confused expression. "What are you doing? Why aren't you doing anything?" I asked quietly. They all looked the floor.
"What do you expect us to do?" Taylor asked as he sat on the floor. I lost it.
"I expect you to fucking help me! I've lost almost everything, and now you won't even help me move the person I love the most. How selfish can you really be, Taylor?" I asked rhetorically. He stared at me, shocked with my harsh words.
Cameron collapsed to the floor, as did Nash. I gasped and tried to move towards them, but my chains protested strongly. I began to crawl back to Shawn when I noticed Carter and Hayes moving towards his body. They lifted him up gingerly and set him on some old newspapers. That spot was close to where my chains were screwed into the cement. I shuffled over there and ripped off his shirt, remembering his gunshot. I stared at it with wonder as I saw it almost completely scarred. I left him shirtless as I curled into his side and fell asleep.
The next morning, I woke up without Shawn by my side. I gasped and shot up immediately.
"Where is Shawn?" I exclaimed. I felt arms grab my sides strongly and elbowed the person in the face before turning around and raising my fist. I stopped in my tracks and clung to the police officer who was standing in front of me with all of my strength.
"Please get us out of here." I pleaded.
"That's what I was going to do before you elbowed me. I know it was an accident, so I won't press charges. C'mon, let's get you to a hospital." He said firmly.
"Where are the others?" I asked, suddenly more worried than ever.
"We'll talk to you about that later. You've experienced too much trauma right now to handle that news." The police officer carried me up the steps and through the dark house, then he handed me off to a medic and I was placed in an ambulance, heading to the hospital.
