Shawn took a few steps in and looked around in confusion as everyone stared at him, then back at me. I quickly recovered and retrieved my guitar. Luckily, a nearby customer had caught it by the neck before it busted on the white tiles. I thanked the old man and positioned my guitar correctly on my lap. I took a deep breath before switching the song. I decided to play Rude by MAGIC!. I decided to switch the genders around and sang the "she's" as "he's".
"Saturday morning... jumped out of bed. And put on my best dress. Hopped in my car and flew like a jet. All the way to you." I sang the next part with a little pinch of soul. "Knocked on your door, with heart in my hands. To ask you a question." I felt Shawns gaze bare into my side as he sat down with a donut to listen. "Cause I know that you're an old fashioned man, aye." I made eye contact with Shawn and kept a straight face as I sang the chorus. "Can I have your son for the rest of my life say yes, say yes, 'cause I need to know. You said I'll never get your blessin' til the day I die. Tough luck my friend but the answer is no! Why ya gotta be so rude? Don't ya know I'm human too? Why ya gotta be so rude? I'm gunna marry him anyway. Marry that boy, marry him anyway. Marry that boy, no matter what ya say. Marry that boy, and we'll be a family. Why ya gotta be so rude." I stummed once then ended the song.
Dead silence. Well fuck. I searched for Shawn's gaze once more and found him staring at me intently. He gestured that we should talk outside by cocking his neck over. I nodded and jumped when I heard loud clapping. The whole donut shop was hooting and clapping at my performance. I felt heat in my cheeks and lowered my gaze as I set my guitar on the counter. I smiled and said thank you before walking slowly to the door. I stepped into the warm California air and searched for Shawn. I found him leaning against the front wall with his head down.
"Shawn?" I asked, stepping closer. He put a hand up.
"Don't come any closer. I want to be able to talk with you without having to touch you. Its uncontrollable." he said, sitting in one of the patio chairs. I sat at the opposite end and leaned back.
"First of all, I want to apologize. Taylor made me realize that I overreacted a little." I rolled my eyes and looked at the parking lot. "Okay a lot." I looked back at him and took his hand. He gave me a look that told me to back off.
"Second of all, if it's okay with you, I would like to return to the house." he said softly. I smiled to myself.
"Okay," I said. "But you're sleeping on the back porch." I said sternly. Shawn looked at me with shock and I smiled. He sighed when he realized I was just kidding.
"And when did you start singing here?" Shawn asked, threading his fingers through mine. I stared at our hands, then back at Shawn.
"I was trying to find something to get my mind off of all this stupid shit." I mumbled. He squeezed my hand and stood up, pulling me into his arms. I wrenched his body closer to mine and squeezed him with all of my strength.
"I will always give you all of me." I whispered. He kissed the top of my head and picked my body up off the ground. I kissed him on the lips and broke away. I rested my forehead onto his and looked into his eyes. "I love you. All of you." I said.
"I love you too, Katie." he whispered back, setting me down again. I smiled and went to retrieve my guitar.
"Are you going to sing more?" a little boy asked. I smiled down at him and shook my head.
"Maybe tomorrow," I reassured him. He wrapped his tiny arms around my legs then left. I found my guitar and strapped it over my shoulder again, resting it against my back.
"I'm going to go home. Wanna go to that new club down the street tonight? We can bring the guys?" Shawn asked. I looked over at Brittany. She walked over to me and I grabbed her hand, pulling her over to the side.
"Wanna come to a club with me? What time do you get off?" I whispered. She smiled at me.
"Yes and in five minutes actually." she whispered back. I squealed excitedly and dragged her out of the door, leaving Shawn trailing behind.
"Can I get my bike tomorrow?" I asked as we all ran to my house.
"Yeah!" She breathed.
When we found our way to the house, I rushed her into my bedroom.
"Pick out a dress, we should have the same size." I said, shoving racks around. I picked out a slick blue dress with one shoulder. Brittany picked out a black dress that was sleeveless and skin tight; but I couldn't really say anything because mine was too. I set our dresses onto the bed and dragged Brittany into the bathroom. I showed her how to use the shower then ran into the guest bathroom and quickly showered and shaved. Afterwards, I put on a robe and wrapped a towel around my wet hair. I ran as fast as I could into my bathroom to find Brittany scrounging through my makeup bag. Her eyes were done as was her foundation, she just seemed to be looking for lipstick.
"I don't have any lipstick. I'm allergic." I told her. She grunted and ran over to the bed to get dressed. I shrugged and put a speed makeup on. Afterwards, I slipped my dress on along with some heels, and we were ready. As we stood side by side in the full length mirror, I grinned. Brittany and I walked down the hall and down the stairs. I kissed Shawn on the cheek and walked down the driveway, heels clicking on the asphalt. Brittany got in the backseat of the convertible car, me in the passenger, and Shawn driving. We drove for about 10 minutes before we parked in front of a plain brick building.
"Are you sure we're in the right place?" I asked nervously. Shawn grinned at me.
"Yep. This is the Brickhouse Hideaway." he declared. I nervously walked towards the entrance with Brittany and Shawn on either side of me. He nodded at a burly body guard and the man opened the door, revealing a throbbing room with dozens of people dancing and jerking their bodies to the beat of the music.
"This is going to be a fun night." I said halfway to Brittany and halfway to myself.
