Second chapter for today! I had to delete it and write it over again since I wasn't satisfied with the first draft.😂

It took me a couple of seconds to take that in. How could my mom keep such a big secret from me for sixteen years!? How could she? Dad obviously had to know about this! That means he lied too! I was ready to put my hand through the phone speaker and strangulate them.

"But your mom is no regular werewolf." Sasha calmly continued. "What do you mean?" I asked her. "This might be hard to digest but just keep an open mind and listen, okay?" She asked me. "Okay." I readily replied. "Your grandmother is the female Alpha of the most powerful werewolf pack in the world. Her grandparents were amongst the founding members of the werewolf administration. They were the very first line of royal werewolves. Your great grandparents died when your grandmother was a baby. So she had to take the Alpha role. It was a compulsion for her. If she wouldn't, then there wouldn't be a proper ruler for god knows how long. When she turned eighteen, she finally took her position and started ruling. She was the only female Alpha in the world and almost all other Alpha's laughed at her. However, she turned out to be the strongest and most fearsome Alpha to have ever walked the earth. She annexed and ruled over many territories in Europe and expanded her empire as far as Algeria. She was not able to expand into Morocco since the rogue leader here was very adamant. The packs all over the world, America, Asia, Africa, any other place that is on the map, highly respect her. Smaragd is one of the most prestigious names in werewolf history. You too have Smaragd blood in you. When your mother came of age, she declined her duty as future Alpha of the pack. Her mother was absolutely furious and even threatened her. But she stood strong and walked away."

There were a million thoughts in my mind. Until yesterday, I was a regular citizen in a regular country who had the most predictable future and yet today, here I was. Granddaughter of a werewolf queen. Great! Nothing unusual. Note the sarcasm.

"Sixteen years ago, you mother contacted me and invited me to Atlanta. I was curious. We had been best friends since the beginning of time but she had never ever invited me to her place. I was excited, I won't lie. I still remember the first time I saw you. In a pink colour crib with chubby cheeks. You looked like a xerox copy of your mom but had your dad's eyes. She made me promise to protect you till the day I died. I had to since I was the Beta's second child and was entitled to protection of the Alpha family. The first time rogues tried to get near you, I vividly remember ripping their throats out." She laughed.

I froze. I still remember. It was spring and the flowers in our old backyard were in full bloom. I was chasing a monarch when the sound of howls erupted the silence. I remember few fragments of seeing blood splattered everywhere. I had ran back to my kitchen and told dad that someone was hurt outside. He had locked all doors and windows that day on and slept on a chair in my room for a week.

"Yeah. I kind of remember..." I mumbled out. "So does that mean my dad is a werewolf too?" I asked I'm a small voice. She nodded. "Your dad was the beta of the neighbouring pack." She said.

All hell in my mind broke loose. I could absolutely not accept that my dad lied and kept such a humongous secret from me! That man couldn't even keep the fact that he had eaten my chocolate's a secret!

"You are a royal werewolf, Rayne. You outrank every other werewolf. But that has it's down side too. Your grandmother has something that all rogue wolves want. The dagger of death. I just gave it a name. It's weird but stick with it. It is a dagger made of pure silver and covered with wolfsbane. It was used a long time ago for punishment. If a werewolf takes the dagger in the heart, he'll die instantly. Or even worse, if the dagger even touches anyone but a royal wolf, their wolf dies." She said. "So how does that affect me?" I asked. "Oh, Rayne. You're the youngest royal wolf. And you've not even shifted yet. You'll need to train after shifting so that you can defend yourself. The rogue leader knows that you are too young and not prepared to fight. They want to get to you so that they can bribe your grandmother. She would never ever let anyone hurt another royal and would give up the dagger. And hence, the dangerous weapon would be in the hands of the most dangerous wolf in town." She explained.

So that's why a random nincompoop was trying to potentially kidnap me...

"Who was the guy earlier today?" "That was a wolf who serves the rogue Alpha. I didn't defend myself since he would know that I'm a beta wolf. And if he knew the beta was here, it wouldn't be a long jump to you." I stared at her. I shouldn't even be here now. So close to those people. I could put an entire pack in danger!

"I shouldn't be here. Should I?" I asked her. She nodded and took out her phone to reply to a text. "We'll take the jet to Scotland. You'll be safe there with the warriors." She continued typing. I raised my eyebrow even higher. As if on cue, she replied, "The warrior are as ancients as the royals. As their name suggests, they fight. They're like the army. The royals and warriors are very close. Almost like family. They nominally rule over most of our territories."

She put her phone down. "So is everyone else in my family a werewolf too?" I asked. At this point, nothing surprised me. "Your dad's brother is. His wife, your aunt, is a human. Your three cousins are all were's. Where's your cousin?" Before I could reply, she burst open the door and headed into Casey's room to find her asleep. "She's sleeping." I shushed. "Not for long." Sasha pulled the covers and blinds off. "Ugh! Rayne! I swear I'll kill you if the sunlight doesn't!" She mumbled. When she didn't get a reply, she peeped an eye open. She sat up straight when she saw Sasha. "Sasha Welmer, second Beta of the Smaragd pack." She said. "Oh! Wait! Smaragd? What are you doing here?" Casey asked. "Your cousin is a royal and currently in danger due to the rogues." Sasha explained, her tone in a dictator-like mode. "I'll get us packed." Casey bowed. "Meet me at the reception in two hours. My brother will stay here till then. Hope you don't mind a blabbering idiot on the loose." She said as she walked back towards the balcony and jumped. I yelped and ran out. I peeked down and found a two similar looking brown wolves. One quickly left and the other looked up with yellow eyes. That was Jack I guessed, the same guy with the curly hair.

"Oh god..." Casey said, still sitting on the bed. "We need to get you out of here! Like, right now!" She said as she put anything visibly mine into my suitcase. "Hey! Calm down. Everything's fine Case. Plus, Jake is here. We can totally use two hours to clean up this mess." I said as I pointed towards both of us. She nodded and headed downstairs to freshen up. I went into the washroom and switched the shower on.

If only it was possibly for hot water to rinse off stress...
