James and I had decided to see the new version of Carrie. I was just staring at my closet, completely hopeless. I was not a fashion forward girl, leggings and a shirt were plenty for me, but I wanted to look nice for our date.
I had to call Beth. I had gotten her and Elliot's number a couple of days ago.
"Hello?"
"Hey Beth, could you come over and help me figure out what to wear for my-" Was it a date?
I heard Beth laugh at the other end. "Your date with James? He's been talking nonstop about today so don't hesitate to use that word."
"So you're going to come over and help a fashion inept girl?"
"Of course I can come over. You're neighbors with him right?"
"Yep. I can't tell you how much I need this help."
Beth laughed again. "It's no problem. Is it all right if I bring my friend Alice?"
"Sure, the more help I can get, the better. Thank you so much, I'll see you soon." I hung up the phone and waited for them to arrive.
About five minutes later, Beth and Alice showed up. Alice's full name was Alison and she had long brown hair and greenish-brown eyes and her round face made her look a bit childlike, but she was stunning. They each had a bag of clothes in their arms and they pushed their way through the door and followed me up to my bedroom.
"What are those for?" I gestured towards the two bags.
"These are last resorts. If we can't find anything that looks amazing for a date," Beth shot me a look. "Then you will have to suffer with our own clothing."
Beth and Alice raided my closet, settling on a beige, oversized sweater and dark blue skinny jeans. They thought it would be a good idea to have me wear Beth's light brown, four inch wedges.I was going to be a little bit taller than James.
The two girls decided to do my hair and makeup as well. Beth gave me a smokey eye and soft colored lips while Alice curled my hair.
"So, James huh?" Alice asked me as she sprayed a little hairspray to hold my loose curls. "He's the best. He's helped me through so much. The definition of a gentleman."
"Can I ask you guys something?" My new friends nodded their heads. "How often can you guys do my hair and makeup and choose my outfits?"
* * * * * *
James showed up at my doorstep at 8:00 sharp, his silver Hummer H3 parked in the driveway.
"Hi," he said after I opened the front door.
"Hi."
"Hey!" Beth and Alice ran up behind me and watched James. "Have fun on your date!" Alice pushed me out the doorway and pretty much right into James' arms.
And that, my friends, started the downfall of the cheesiest night I have ever endured.
First off, I tripped. James caught me, of course, and asked me if I was all right. And I was right, I was a bit taller than him. On the car ride to the theater, he told me I was beautiful and I told him he looked handsome. He paid for the tickets and concessions. During the movie, he succeeded in the 'stretch and wrap'. At the scary scenes (which I may have or may not have exaggerated my fear at), I snuggled closer to James and he tightened his grip on my shoulders. Afterwords, James ran outside and into the storm just so he could pull his truck around. He said he didn't want me walking in the rain.
Cheesy, huh? Then, the night took a turn for the worst.
"Raelene, Raelene, Raelene." Only one person ever called me by my full first name. And sadly, it was Blake Hemingway. Of course he would be here.
