I watched Blake read my letter. I didn't want to interrupt him, so I sat in the drivers seat and watched him, just as he had watched me.
He looked up from my letter once he tucked it away and glanced at me.
"How long have we been sitting here?" he asked.
"About five minutes."
"Why didn't you tell me?"
"I didn't want to interrupt your reading," I told him, nodding to the envelope in his hands.
"Okay. Are you ever going to get rid of that?" he asked me, nodding to the starfish necklace that James gifted to me.
I grasped it between my fingers, not wanted to part with it. I reached my hand behind my neck and unclasped it. I held the chain and pendant in my hand tenderly. Blake was watching so I opened the door and threw it as far as I could. I watched it hit a rock and slide down the side.
For some reason, I wanted to grab it again. I wanted to wear it again. I felt naked without it.
"Much better," I head Blake say. He walked up beside me and wrapped his arm around my waist, guiding my inside.
I glanced back, trying to locate the delicate necklace again.
I allowed Blake to lead me into the small coffee shop.
"What's good here?" he asked me.
"I'm going to order the flat white," I told Blake, remembering what Austin had recommended to me on my first day in Australia. I never asked him why he was at the airport.
"Alright. I'll have the same," Blake said. I told the cashier our orders and Blake and I walked past the counter to wait for our drinks. Within no time, 'two flat whites' was called and I stepped forward to grab the two small cups of coffee. I handed one to Blake and we sat at a small table at the back of the coffee shop.
"Mmm," Blake moaned as he sipped the coffee. I smiled and took a sip of my own.
"Do you like it?" I asked him.
"It's amazing. How'd you discover this?" he asked me. I thought I told him before, but I guess I hadn't.
"Um, Austin. When I first came here, he told me to get this."
"It's gross," Blake quickly changed his mind and the cup clattered onto the table. Thankfully, no coffee spilled.
"Come on, Blake. What's your problem?" He jealousy was getting to be ridiculous. First the necklace, and now the coffee?
"I just want to be the only one in your mind! I don't want you to have to see that necklace that James gave you, or have to drink the coffee that Austin told you to! It's bad enough that we both have to look at that scar on your perfect face because of Alek!" Blake shouted, earning rude glares from the others in the coffee shop.
"Blake, calm down," I begged. I stared him in the eye and inhaled deeply through my nose and out through my mouth, indicating that he should do the same.
He blinked slowly and looked back at me.
"I love you."
I let my eyes fall to the coffee cup. "I love you too," I mumbled back. It was hard for me to say when someone could see me. I guess it was easier to say at night, or in the dark, because the Blake couldn't see the blood rush to my cheeks or see my small smile.
I heard Blake chuckle a little and I glanced up.
"What's so funny?" I glared at him and finished the last of my coffee.
