As soon as I realized that Beth, Alice and Blake were here, I pulled my legs off of Austin and stood up to hug them. The people around us didn't seem to notice the high school students that just crashed their little party.
"Surprise!" My friends repeated, oblivious to the fact that I was just kissing some guy they had never met before.
I laughed uneasily. "W-what are you guys doing here?"
Alice spoke first. "We're here because we wanted to surprise you! We've been here for a day and then Blake said that you were going to a barbecue with a friend and we thought we'd track you down!"
I didn't want to ask how, because Beth and Alice had their ways that were probably illegal.
"Aren't you happy to see us?!" Beth's smile faltered and I nodded quickly to reassure her.
"Of course, you guys just took me off guard," I explained.
Alice smiled and hugged me and Beth leaned in to whisper in my ear. "Who is that hunk of man you were just kissing?" she giggled.
Blake started walking slowly towards us, his eyes never leaving my face.
"Beth, Alice, Blake, this is Austin." Austin waved casually from his chair.
"Austin, this is Beth, Alice and Blake. My friends from California."
"Ahh, Blake. You're the boyfriend." Austin stood up, and he dwarfed Blake. In height and width. For the first time, I realized how buff Austin was. His arms were nearly twice the size as mine, given that mine didn't have much muscle, but still.
"Friend," Blake corrected.
"Told you," I said to Austin.
Blake held his hand out and Austin shook it. Blake looked at me and smiled, but it didn't reach his eyes.
I hugged him before he'd start asking me questions.
"I missed you," I whispered.
"It doesn't seem like it," he retorted, gently pushing me off of him. I took in a deep breath and looked to Austin, then back to my friends.
"Um, I need to talk to Austin alone. Just real quick." My friends nodded, except Blake, and I grabbed Austin's hand to lead him away from the fire.
"I'm sorry, I didn't know that they were gonna show up."
"Well that obvious, you wouldn't have been kissing me if you had."
I groaned and covered my face with my hands.
"I don't know why I did that, I'm sorry." My voice was muffled through my hands and Austin grabbed my wrists softly and pulled them away from my face.
"I'm not." He leaned in and kissed me again. I pulled away again and he looked at me quizzically.
"You're seven years older than me," I pointed out.
"But you might as well be 20 considering that you're wise beyond your years."
"You don't even know me."
"I'd like to."
"We better get back to my friends." I started walking back to the fire, but Austin's hand pulled me back.
