HADLEY’S POV
“And did you just not think to tell me? Hadley, I thought we were best friends, I could have helped you.” I can hear Ava talking to me, but to be honest I’m not really taking anything it. “Hadley are you even listening to me? HADLEY!!!” Ava yells turning heads all around the classroom. “Yeah. Huh. What?” I say a little confused. “Did you hear a thing I just said to you?” She says frustrated. “Uh yeah sure, all of it.” I say unconvincingly. Ava just rolls her eyes and mutters “I can’t believe you didn’t tell me.” “Wait what are you talking about Ava?” I say just catching on. “What do you think Hadley? Seriously I can’t believe I had to find out through everybody else, I don’t even know if I what I’ve heard is true. Do you know how bad that is Hadley... So much for telling each other everything.” She says getting almost angry. “I’m sorry Ava, but the only people I’ve actually told is Tyla and mum, oh and um well this other guy..” I say quietly. “Wait so you tell some random guy before you tell your best friend?” She says definitely angry now. “Ava why are you so mad-” but before I can finish my sentence she cuts me off. “No Hadley the fact is that you haven’t talked to me in days and when we finally do talk you don’t tell me anything. Oh and what’s more is you tell somebody else, probably a guy you just met, before you tell me.. Oh wait is he the next person on your to do list?” She spits out. “Ava it’s been like two days since we’ve talked and it’s not my fault you weren’t at school yesterday! And hold on a sec you have no idea who this guy is, do you really think of me like that? Thanks Ava, out of everyone I thought you would have understood. Obviously not” I say, matching her tone and with that I get all of my stuff together and move to a desk on my own at the back of the classroom. “Are you okay Miss Spencer?” I hear my English teacher Mr Harries say to me. “Uh yeah I’m fine.” I mumble before opening my book and going on with the work.
As soon as the bell goes signalling that class is over, I practically run out of the room and to my locker. All I can think about is what Ava said to me. Does she really think I would move on from Mason so quickly, especially with my past? I flinch back at the thought of first Ben and now Mason. Do boys just see me as a toy, love it and play with it for a while, but soon get sick and tired of it and move on? Did both Ben and Mason use any excuse they could to get rid of me? I tug on my shirt to make sure it’s still hidden. I know it’s been ages since Ben did what he did but I can’t get over it, not yet anyway.
I look around me and see people walking and laughing with each other and I realise I’m not in the mood to socialise or even fake it right now. So I put my stuff in my locker, grab my lunch and a pair of my dance shorts that I keep in their just in case and walk to the dance rooms. I spend the whole of lunch rehearsing for my upcoming competition and when I’m finished I can feel the throbbing pain in my legs, from being over worked, beginning.
The rest of the day passes painfully slow but finally the last bell goes off and I am out of the school in record time. “Hey Hadds, Hadley?” I hear Ava’s familiar voice call out. “What?” I say harshly and she cringes back. “Look Hadds, I’m sorry about what I said before, I didn’t mean it, I was just angry.” She says pleadingly. “No Ava, I can’t handle this right now, I’m sorry.” I say sadly and walk away to the bus stop.
“Hello? Tyla you home?” I call out after walking through our front door. “Hey Hadds, I’m out the back.” I hear Tyla call from outside. “Hey how was your- Oh um hi, who’s this?” I say surprised at the blonde girl sitting by the pool with Tyla. “Oh Hadley this Mia a friend of mine, Mia this is my sister Hadley.” He introduces us. “Hey Mia.” I smile before excusing myself and going up to my room.
