Zane, Travis, and Aaron stood staring at the spot where the girls just stood.  They were almost in a trance, as they tried to comprehend what just happened.  They were right in front of them, except they weren't.   Yes, they looked like them... but their manner was so different.  They almost seemed drained, as if all they were was a shell.  Like their soul was gone, and they were just bodies staring into some kind of infinite abyss.

"No... NO NO NO NO!" Zane yelled as he ran to the spot where the girls were.  He got to his knees and placed his hands on his head.  "They were right here!"

"I..." Travis stuttered as he tried to console his friend.  No matter how hard he tried he couldn't get a single word out.  He tried to come to terms with what they just saw but couldn't.  Of course to be fair.. do you know anyone who could?

Aaron continued to stare at the full moon.  It had to have something to do with it.  He just couldn't figure out what.  "I don't think that was them..." he whispered to himself.  Travis, beginning to snap out of his trance looked at Aaron with confusion.  "What did you say?"

"I said..."  Aaron turned around and looked at Travis right in the eye.  He continued, "that I don't think what we saw was actually them."  Zane and Travis looked at him with their heads tilted.  "What do you mean you don't think it's them?" Zane asked with anger in his tone.

"The moon,"  Aaron said pointing out the window, "it's full".  "Aaron," Travis interrupted, "don't tell me you're turning into one of those mysterious types.."  "Really?"  Zane shot Travis the come-on-have-common-sense-with-a-hint-of-annoyance look.  "He always was!  Remember high school?"  "Says you Mr. I'm-emo-and-don't-wanna-talk-to-anyone-but-the-SHADOW-knights!"

Zane was about to charge at Travis when Aaron yelled "Enough!  Seriously!  The moon is full... a full moon is known to have mystical abilities... especially in werewolf and mermaid culture."

"You think mermaid are real?" Travis asked raising an eyebrow.  "Of course not, "Aaron replied defensively, "that's ridiculous!"  Zane rolled his eyes, "Says the werewolf..."

"Can we just focused on what just happened here?" Aaron asked with a hint of annoyance in his tone.  "Gladly!" Zane stated rudely.

They boys tried to talk about what happened but to be frank, IT WAS REALLY HARD!  Not only was it hard to find the right vocabulary to describe exactly what happened, but emotionally as well.  This is the second time they watched them fade away without being able to do a single thing.  It had an impact on them.

After a few painful minutes, Travis's eyes went wide.  "Travis..???" Aaron asked.  Travis snapped out of his miniature trance and looked at the group.  "I just remembered... last night I had the strangest dream.  I was at a beach when I heard a whistle; the same whistle I heard when Katelyn disappeared.  I followed the sound and I was lead to a volleyball game she was playing in, wearing the same swim suit she was when she was... a... here."  Travis had a sad expression on his face, he really missed Katelyn.

Zane was struck by these words but then had a realization of his own.  "I had a dream like that, Kawaii~Chan was a lot younger and selling meifwa scout cookies.  I heard her cart's bell and I walked- carried her home..."  Zane couldn't say anymore.  It was too painful to remember his holding little Kawaii~Chan in his arms when she was missing and he had no idea when he'd see her again.

Travis looked at Aaron, "Did you have a dream?"  Aaron put his head down and sighed, "Yes."  "Well?" Zane asked.  "I don't really want to talk about it..." he said as he got up from his chair and leaned against the window.  He continued to stare at the moon.

As Aaron stared he thought he was hallucinating.  The moon was turning colors.  Like, actual colors!  It was a mixture of purple, blue, and pink... almost like a painting.  He could almost see the rocks of the moon transform into the different colors.
