CHAPTER THREE - TRIS

Christina and Will sit at the breakfast table deep in conversation, the only thing that I can think about right now is, who Amar is. I heard Eric mention him last night, he really hit a nerve with Four which makes me even more curious.

Four enters the Dining hall giving me a slight smile and walks over the the table of Dauntless leaders and instructors. He slips down across from Eric and immediately launch into conversation with him.

I poke my eggs with my folk and rest my elbow on the table, placing my heavy head on my hand. I didn't get enough sleep last night. The whole night I was tossing and turning, thinking and dreaming about Al.

"Hey Tris you okay?" Christina asks as her and Will wrap up their small banter. I nod and continue to play with my food.

"You know you're a terrible liar, right?" She says.

I left my head up and look at her, "good thing I became friends with someone from Candor so that they could tell me that."

"Jeez, you're in a good mood." She leans back tentatively.

I moved my elbow and put my folk down, "sorry I really couldn't sleep last night."

"How come?" Will asks as he looks at me with a hint of curiosity in his eyes.

"I don't want to talk about it." I sighed.

"Christina told me that you were gone during the night, where were you?" He asks easing his eyebrows at me. I look from Christina to will, thinking about the answer.

I launch into the story about Eric and Fours fight, and how Eric mentioned Amar. They nodded along the whole time, listening in closely, making sure not to miss any detail.

.......

Will, Christina and I, walk towards the training room. As we walk I notice Four walking in a different direction, on the path that leads to the pit.

"I wonder where he's going" Christina says as we stop to watch for a second.

I have a sudden urge to talk to him, "I'll be back, you guys go ahead." The nod and continue on their way done the path. Once I know that they are gone I sprint down the path after Four.

.......

I breathe hard and heavily, I have to get up, prove to Four that I don't need protecting, to prove to Peter that I'm not a 'Silly little girl'. Because I'm not, I am Tris Prior, the sooner they realise that - the better.

I build up all the strength I have left in me just to stand up, I quickly duck as Peter throws a punch in my direction. As I stand back up I feel a blow to my side, as Peter knocks me down with his foot.

I look in the direction of the door where Four stands with a disappointing look on his face, our eyes meet contact before he turns and walks away, I looked at Eric with a smug look on his face as Peters fist meets my face, that's all the i remember after waking up in the infirmary with Christina and Will beside me.

My body aches all over, I feel a sharp jab of pain in my head as I slowly try to sit up.

"Hey! You're alive" Christina teases. I give her as much of a grin as I can manage with my swollen lip.

Every time that I blink I see Wills better up face after his and ALS fight. I don't want this image in my brain, it's just been burned into the back of my skull. Al has been burned back into the back of my skull.

"It appears so" I reply back, this time receiving small grin from the corners of her mouth. "What'd I miss?" I ask as I tried to lighten the mood.

"Well, nothing really. We just came to see if you were awake before we went to dinner." Will says looking me in the eye. He had a split lip from his previous fight.

"Maybe later, I think I'm going to go and have a shower before these clothes stick to me." I exaggerated receiving yet another smile from Christina. Something's different about her, her and Will keep smiling a lot. I have to get to the bottom of this. After I find out who Amar is.

"Okay" she replies and with that they're gone. They walked out of the room and disappeared down the main hallway to the dining hall.

I slowly, but steadily, got my legs over the side of the bed. My legs are to short for me to be able to touch the ground so my feet just dangled over the side. I took a deep breath in and pushed myself to my feet. Flinching at the pain that shot through my entire body. I hesitated but eventually took a step towards the door. Then another, and another, and another one until I reached the door. I pulled the door open with all the strength I had left in me.

I hobbled into the dormitory (which was empty because everyone else was at dinner) and grabbed my spare pair of cloths and left.

Once in my own private shower section, I stripped and examined the bruises left upon my skin by Peter. I had one right next to my rib cage that caused agony when I breathed in.

......

I got dressed into my freshly washed, black clothes that the Dauntless provided the initiates with.

I pull my hair out of its ponytail and comb my hands through it. I walk to the bathroom sink and pick up Christina's hairbrush. I run the brush through my wet hair, starring at the reflection that starred back.

My face was bruised in different place, I had a split lip and a grazed cheek. I look different. I don't look like the little abnegation girl I once was, I look like a fighter.

I braided my wet hair so it was back and out of my face. I walked out of the bathroom and into the dormitories. I walk to my bed and pick up my jacket, I pull it up and over my shoulders, zipping it up to my neck. I tie the laces on my shoes and walk towards the door.

I lace my fingers around the handle, and prepare to pull it open. My entire arm aches, I clench my teeth as I open the door. I walk out of the dorm and into the hallway.

I walk to the dining hall and walk to the table that Will and Christina sit at. I slide in next to Christina as she examines my hair.

"I like it." She smiles. I smile back, and she places her arm over my shoulders and pulls me in close to her. I hug her back, feeling a little surprised by this gesture. She giggles against the back of my neck and pulls out of the hug.

"I think I want to get a tattoo," Christina says look from will to me. "Whose coming with me?" She placed her hands on the table and looks between the two of us. "Tris? Will?"

"No way," I say as I pick up some of the food from the centre of the table. "Take Will, I'm starving." I removed my father scolding me for complaining that I was starving, he told me that I was hungry not staving and that I'd never be staving.

"Ugh. You're no fun, you know that?" She groans. "Will, will you come?"

He shrugs his shoulders, "I don't see why not".

I catch his eye and mouth the words, "suck up." Christina sees me and hits me.

"He's helping me have fun, unlike you" we all laugh and say our goodbyes. I continued to eat my dinner, chicken peas, and carrot, an abnegation dinner.

.....

As I left the dinning hall I run into Uriah on his way back from somewhere.

"Sorry!" I jump back, out of surprise. He grins and brushes his shoulder off.

"I should be alright." I give him a small smile and he gives me one in return. "I should probably tell you, tonight we are playing Dauntless war games so be at the platform by 9".

"Why?" I asked as my eyebrows knotted together. He shrugged his shoulders and walked off. I roll my eyes and headed towards the platform to wait.
