CHAPTER EIGHT - FOUR

I stand at the ledge of the Chasem taking in its beauty. The beauty and the power it has to kill something or someone in a matter of seconds. I admire the way that current pulls the water along, following the path that it must go, with an occasional spray of water that's been rejected and crashed into the rocks. The lethal power that this Chasem has is what makes it beautiful.

Tris stands with a hollow woman dressed in grey. She has a hocked nose exactly like Tris, she is a small woman with a soft look on her eyes. She's her mother. Tris and I keep sneaking glances at each other and divert eye contact almost as fast as it happens. I look back at the Chasem as Tris and her mother start speaking. Tris goes a light shade of pink. The sudden urge to be near her surged throughout my body pushing me towards her involuntarily.

"Hello, im Beatrices mother, Natalie." Her mother extended her arm towards me, which surprised me considering she's an Abnegation. Abnegation avoid touching, as it is selfish. I clamped my hand around hers and shook it.

"I'm Four, Tris's initiation instructor." I replied as we dropped our hands by our sides. I never had parents who set good examples, parents whose expectations were worth living up to, but Tris did. I can see them within her, the courage and the beauty they pressed into her like a handprint. I can tell that Tris will make a great Dauntless. I cleaned my throat and looked at Tris and back to her mother. "Your daughter is doing very well in initiation, so I wouldn't be to worried." Her mother grinned, and her eyes finally fell on me. I looked at Tris and let out a smile.

"Well, I am very pleased to hear" she placed her hand on Tris's shoulder, "you must be doing great with the transfers." Sh said.

"I try my hardest," I smile. "Do you mind if I borrow your daughter for just a moment?" I ask as I look between the both of us.

"Take her." She nods, "I should get going anyway." Tris nods and hugs good bye. Her mother placed a kiss on her temple and stroked her hand down her back. She watched her mother walk away with a longing look in her eyes.

"Give dad a hug for me," she calls out after her mother, her mother nods and blows a kiss, Tris watches her walk into the crowd until she had been completely swallowed be it. Tris turns back to face me, her eyes are glazed over like a coat of crystal shimmers in her eyes. I can tell she is doing everything she can to stop herself from crying.

"Meet me in the trading room at 7?" She looks at me blankly, "we have something's that we need to talk about." She sighs and chews her bottom lip and looks into the distance.

"I'm assuming that I should come alone," she says as she looks back at me. I nod my head and my feet pull me backwards. I have no idea where I am going, but I felt the need to feel like I had to go even if I didn't want to, I should feel like I did.

........

I wondered around aimlessly until 6:30 when I made my decision to go and get dinner, and then head to the training room. When I walked into the dining hall, the table that Tris and her friends would usually sit at was empty. I went and sat next to Shauna. She sat with her younger sister Lynn, who is taking part in initiation. Shauna, Zeke and I have all been best friends since initiation. We were in different groups because they're Dauntless born and I was a transfer. Shauna was losing her fights, so I helped her, that's when I realised that I wanted to train the new initiates to come.

"Hey" she smiled towards me. I smiled back in response as I slipped into the seat next to her. "Ah- Lynn this is Four, Four this is Lynn" we nodded our heads at each other without saying a word.
