CHAPTER SIX - TRIS
"We should go back" I say as I pull out of his embrace, wiping away the tears left on my face. I hadn't noticed that I was crying until I actually let myself breath properly. Until I collapsed under his arms and breathed.
"Are you sure your ready?" He asked.
"Yes..." I sighed. He nodded and we both jogged back over to the group of initiates still arguing over our tactic. They hadn't even noticed that I was gone.
"How are you all so dumb!?!" Christina cried with frustration, "We need to split up!"
"No, we don't!" Will yelled. Marlene sighed and walked away from the group. She went and sat down to where Four was sitting not even 20 minutes ago.
"Guys!" I interrupted. Everyone's attention turned to me, but I just turned too lol at Four.
"Tris knows where the other teams flag is." He says, I looked at him wide eyed. I hated talking in front of people.
"Um... Yeah... it's at Navy Pier Park..." I said as I looked at Christina who crossed her arms and deliberately ignored Will. A small patch of white clung to her shoulder that covered her tattoo.
"So?" She asked, "What's the plan?". Beside me Four stood rubbing his hands together trying to ease the pain that was left after scaling the Farris Wheel.
I half expected myself to just sink away, the old Tris would have. But I surprised not only myself but Christina, Will, Uriah, Marlene, Myra, and Four. My gut wrenches whenever I am around him. I feel like I'm in a car that has lost all control, like im just going anywhere that the journey takes me, knowing that wherever it is it can't be good.
I look at Four for reassurance, but his face is just blank, like he didn't just hug me to comfort me. His deep blue eyes look black in this light. The shadows of the build shadowing his handsome face - stop, i need to concentrate not think about how handsome he is- making him look like the guy he his, mysterious.
"Split in half," I say. "Four of us go to the right side of the pier, three to the left. The other team is in the park at the end of the pier, so the group of four will charge as the group of three sneaks behind the other team to get the flag."
"Sounds good," says an older girl clapping her hands "Lets get this night over with shall we?"
..........Our footsteps are silent, leaving a ringing in my ears. I walk along side Four and Christina. The urge that I have, eating on the inside of me just to be alone with Four, hearing the softness in his voice when he spoke, was like listening to a whole new person speak.
"You ready?" I say to Christina finally breaking the silence, as our footsteps fall in sinc. A light cold breeze carries shivers up my spine, making the hairs in my neck stand.
"To smash Peter and Drew? Hell yeah!" She grinned, when I was little I always wondered what it would be like to have a sister, I knew it was selfish and that I shouldn't, but I did. Now that I have Christina, I know exactly how it feels to have a sister.
"We should probably split up here" Uriah says pulling is gun up to his shoulder. I nodded and grabbed one off Christina's back. I gave them each a round on ammunition and got ready to depart.
Four took his group, moving to the right causing a distraction for the rest of us.
Christina came with me to the left side along with Uriah. His smile marked upon his face. I hadn't noticed until now that he had a tattoo of a snake behind his earlobe.
"Nice tattoo" I say to him on the way over.
"Thanks! I like your birds" his lip curled into an infectious smile, causing one to creep onto my lips.
"Thanks," I reply.
"You two shut up! They'll hear us" Christina hissed at us, she turns around and glares at us.
"Sorry" we both whisper back in unison while holding in our laughs.
"There!" Christina points to a bunch of initiates crowding around a tree. A silhouette of a tree stands in the distance, with the glow of the teams flag illuminating the branches.
The three of us run in, shooting anyone we could. Christina and I both go towards the flag that was hanging from a tree up above me. I tried to jump to grab it but I realised that there was no real use in trying, so I stepped back for Christina to take it.
She look at me said, "Hey Tris, look you've already been the hero of the day, why not let someone else have a turn?" She shots me a patronising glare and gets the flag. I shake it off and continue running after her.
She didn't mean it. She didn't mean it. She did mean it.
.........
Once we arrive back into the dormitory I get changed straight away, and pull the braid from my hair. I brushed my teeth and walked towards my bunk. Christina sat on hers talking to Will, he seemed to have forgiven her quickly. She smiled at me as I approached them, but I just ignored it and got into bed.
"Are you mad?" She asked. I shook my head and laid down, "Well I'm sorry for being a jerk." Her words rang in my ears as I laid in bed pretending to be asleep.
Maybe she didn't mean it.
......
Once I was sure that everyone was asleep and in their beds, I got up and went to the drinking fountain. I was being extra cautious considering the last time that I was here I almost died. I almost died tonight. If it weren't for Four both times, I could be dead. I would be dead.
As I took a mouthful of water and swallowed it, I let the cool sensation find it's way to my stomach. The rock of the cave floor was cold and hard on my bare feet. I walked to the side of the wall and sat down leaning my back against it. I sighed and just thought about the events of the last 24 hours.
I almost died, Four saved me, Four hugged me, I showed leadership, I over heard Eric and Fours fight.
