"Have you eaten lately Ms Orchard?, It seems your iron is down and you need to up your iron intake and you need to take folic acid" the doctor calmly said. Lis interrupted "But you take folic acid when your...", "pregnant, yes your pregnant Ms Orchard" the doctor continued, "we will keep you in hospital to make sure your iron levels are ok, probably for 24 hours". Lis sat there on her bed in amazement trying to take the news that she is pregnant but also quite ill, she turned her head towards Olly trying to gage a reaction. Olly looked at Lis and a huge grin on his face appeared "wow, we're going to have a baby" he said excitedly. Lis was happy that Olly was happy but she was still anxious until she saw the scan and that her health was going to be ok. "You are ok about it, aren't you Lis" Olly asked concerned, "yes I am babe but I just want to make sure it's ok you know before I can be really happy about it" Lis responded. The doctor who was still in the room writing the notes said "we can arrange a scan for you this afternoon, if you would like, so we can see how far along you are". "Really? that would be great" Lis said. "Babe, you can go if you want, I know your busy and you've got alot to do" Lis said, Sarah interrupted "Lisa, your health is more important, we will reschedule it's fine, he needs to be here with you". "See babe, I'm always going to be here for you" Olly said taking her hand. "Congratulations guys, I'm so happy for you" Sarah excitedly shouted. "You know we can't say anything you know until I'm 12 weeks" Lis whispered to Olly getting the impression Olly was fit to burst and tell everyone. "I know babe, don't worry mum's the word, haha" he responded. The doctor left the room and Sarah got up "right guys, I've got to go and sort the band out, let me know how everything goes". "Ok Sarah, and erm you better get arranging that interview soon as I don't want to be showing and getting pestered by the paps still" Lis said. "Sure I'll let you know in the week, look after her Olly" Sarah waved and departed.
"Lisa Orchard" a sonographer shouted out. Olly and Lis got up from their armchairs and made their way to the dark room hand in hand. There was apprehension on Lis' face "don't worry love, we are just going to see how far gone you are" the sonographer reassured her. She lied down on the bed and lifted up her top just below her breasts. "Right, I'm just going to put a cold like jelly on your tummy" the sonographer said. Lis put out her hand to Olly and he stood up along side her and placed his hand in hers. The sonographer got out her scanner and started to try to find the fetus until she found something "ok" she said looking at her monitor. She turned the monitor to face Olly and Lis, "there's your baby, can you see the heartbeat", they looked each other with tears in there eyes. They didn't need to say anything to each other, it was a sense of relief to both of them, Olly kissed Lis' forehead "wow" is all he could say. "Ok, I'm going to turn this back so I can find out how far along you are". It was still silent, but glances between Olly and Lis were frequent with little grins and smirks. They just wanted to get out so they can celebrate together. "Right, everything looks all ok, and looking at the measurements it looks like you're around 6 weeks", "6 weeks? oh my goodness, I hadn't felt anything like my last pregnancy, I actually feel good well apart from today obviously" Lis was shocked. Lis wiped her stomach with a paper towel to get rid of the jelly liquid and got off the bed. "Ok, thank you I'll refer your notes to the midwife and your GP surgery, oh and here are a couple of copies of the scans for you" the sonographer said. "Thanks for all your help" Olly shook her hand.
"You better go and pick the boys up from your mums, I'll be here overnight so you might as well go babe, I think I'm just going to go sleep now" Lis yawned. "Ok babe, I'll be back in the morning" he responded kissing her warm lips. She was still white and needed her rest. "And babe... don't tell the boys yet, I wanna tell them together" Lis said. "Can I tell...?" "Your mum...sure babe, I can tell you wanna tell someone" she replied with a smile. "Thanks and Lis... I love you, I'm so happy" he gave her a hug and left the room. She began to worry, she loved Olly but part of her was wondering if he would up and leave like Michael did. She dosed off.
"Mum, I'm coming to pick the boys up now, I've been at the hospital, I'll be back soon" Olly said into his phone.
"Dad", the boys come running to the front door, "hey guys, how are you? have you been good?" he asked as he walked in. "Boys go and play for a minute" Dawn said. "You've been to the hospital? what's happened" Dawn asked. He went through what happened in the day and his news "Lis is pregnant, your going to have another grandchild, I know what your gonna say that we have only been together for a short amount of time, but mum I love her it's serious this time" Olly was trying to not get any negative response. Dawn took Olly's hand and said " babe, why do you say that, I am over the moon for you and Lisa, you make the perfect couple and I can't wait". "Thanks mum, you can't say anything to anyone" Olly said smiling. "Lis is staying in hospital for night as her iron levels are down" Olly stated, "Do you want to all stay here tonight?" Dawn asked. "Would that be ok?, don't know if I can be by myself when she is in there" he responded. "Awww you are in love" making fun of Olly, "ha ha mum, so what's for dinner?" he began rooting through the cupboards.
"Ring ring, Ring ring", "Yea hello" Olly answered the phone in a sleepy tired voice, it was 2 o'clock in the morning, "Hello is that Mr Murs?". Olly sat up in bed wiped his eyes and woke up fully "Yes speaking". "It's Doctor Marshman from the hospital...", "what's wrong with Lis... tell me" he responded trying to get dressed at the same time, "I think you need to get down to the hospital as soon as possible" the doctor responded. Olly told his mum that he was going to the hospital and if it was ok to look after the boys. He exited out of his mum's house very worried.
He arrived at the hospital within 10 minutes, went to the ward where he had left Lis previously and the bed was empty, he shouted "where is she?", a nurse run towards Olly and asked him to come into the relative's room and the doctor will be joining them as soon as possible. He sat there in a green armchair twiddling his thumb and trying not to shed a tear, "Mr Murs?" the doctor put out his hand to shake his. Olly took his hand and nodded "is she ok, where is she?" he asked. "We have had to give her a blood transfusion, as she was very week and she didn't have enough iron in her body, she has been put in a high dependency ward so we can keep an eye on her" the doctor responded. "And the baby?" he asked trying to gauge a response. "Well... it seems that everything is fine, she will need more regular checks though and as less stress as possible". "Can I see her?" Olly said, the doctor looked at the nurse "well we are out of visitor hours, but seeing as though we called you the nurse will take you to her". "Thanks I really appreciate what you have done" Olly responded.
"Hey you" Olly whispered. She was lying there peaceful, asleep, she looked beautiful, she had a little more colour in her cheeks than she did previously in the day. Olly kissed her forehead "you scared me you know that?". She opened her eyes, her voice went all dreamy like she had just woken from a good sleep "hey" she simply said. "How are you feeling baby?", "I'm ok, what am I doing here?" she asked. Olly had told her everything about what the doctor said and what the time was and everything "and the baby? is everything ok?" she asked not wanting to hear the answer. "Everything's perfect babe, it's all ok, just we need to look after you now" Olly answered grabbing her hand. She looked at him and still half awake and was about to drift off "I love you Olly, you have made me soo...." she fell asleep. He smiled, kissed her forehead and whispered in her ear "I love you too, sweet dreams babe". She let out a dreamy groan, he stroked her hair protectively. "Mr Murs... I'm afraid we need you to leave now..." the nurse said, "Ok, no problem" he took one last look at the sleeping Lis and looked at the nurse and said "thank you so much for what you have done". He departed the hospital and made his way back to his mum and dad's house.
