Chapter 4- Turned

Maxine's pov

I groggily wake up hearing my parents argue and seeing my younger brother, Bobby staring worriedly at me. "We have to go save her from him!" Father shouts. "We can't control her!" My mother shouts back. "If you saw what we saw today, you'd believe me! He attacked me!" I struggle to stand up. "Mother." I weakly say. They both run to me. I'm so dizzy. "She's.... In trouble." I whisper falling unconscious on my father's shoulder.

Jason's pov

I look through a few spellbooks trying to find the correct spelling to use. She struggles with the chains and screams in anger and frustration. "Forget it." I say rolling my eyes. "You will never escape those chains." I drop one accidentally and when I bend down to pick it up, I'm kicked in the back of the head. I stumble to the ground in surprised confusion. Then I see it. She melted the chains!! How'd I not hear her?! She's learned to control her powers?! I stand up and take off running. I need my staff. Where is my staff?! She shoots a wall of fire at me and I press myself against the wall. She stands in front of me, enraged, her hands aglow. "You never wanted to help me! You only wanted to help yourself!" She yells. "You are evil!" I see my staff behind her and hide my smile. I call it to me and stand up to grab it. "I am not evil. I just worship a deity that comes through." "My father will have your head for harming me." I smirk, feeling the power surge through me. "Funny you should mention that man." "Huh?" Her eyes light up with anger. "What'd you do to my father?!" She shoots a fireball at my head which I easily dodge. "He said he prayed to your deity for two weeks after your little sister, Maxine, got possessed. He begged for my help. Which of course I wouldn't." "Maxine?" She whispers shocked. I nod. "See that's the difference between yours and mine. Mine comes through within the hour. Sometimes yours never comes through." I fling an energy blast at her. She slams into the wall. "I have power your tiny mind couldn't even imagine." I say smirking over. "Sure you're powerful." She says, holding her arm. "But there's one power you will never have." "And what's that?" I say crossing my arms. "And don't say something stupid like the power of love." I say rolling my eyes. "You underestimate the power of love. Not to mention the power of prayer." I smirk. "I pray but to a much more powerful deity." I grab her arm making her stand up. "My power will never desert me!" She shouts, throwing a ball of fire at me. I easily protect myself with a spell. It dissipates and she looks shocked. I smile. She runs over prepared to punch me. I dodge her attack and shoot her back with a painful spell. She slams into the wall and crumples to the ground whimpering in pain. "Pathetic." I gripe glaring at her. I grab her arm, looking at her hands. "If you join me, you could have anything you want. Do whatever you wish to do." "Never." She says. I smile and make her stand up and walk down the hall. "Don't you want to avenge your family?" She spins around. "Revenge is not part of my life story." She growls pulling her arm free. I grab it again, pressing my staff against her throat and making it light up. "You and me together we could have power that you can't even fathom. You would have anything you want!" She tries to push my staff but of course she's too weak. "Not to mention you won't be as weak as you are now!" "I'm not weak!" She shouts defensively. "Oh my dear child yes you are. Compared to what my strength can do to you and your pathetic family." I light it up brighter. "Anything?" She shakily asks. I smile. "Anything my dear. Anything your wild heart desires." I tell the confused 18 year old. "I understand your fear, trust me. I was in your position once before. Not knowing what my future would entail but I did it and I'm the strongest being in the land." "Ok." She says. I smile. "On one condition." The smile fades. I glare at her annoyed. "You don't harm my family." "Ok. I can keep that bargain." We walk to my room. Mostly me dragging her wounded body. "You would really leave behind everything. Everything you know and love? Your deity?" She looks away. "Do I have much of a choice?" I throw her to the ground near the pentagram. "Of course." She looks shocked. "Join... Or die."  She's terrified. "Will it hurt?" I smile and shove her into the pentagram. "Wait and see." I say. The black shadow encases the young girl. She screams. Like I did. All those summers ago.

~flashback~

My whole family had just died of cholera. I begged, prayed, pleaded to the God's to let them live but he took them one by one. Eight brothers and sisters. My two loving parents. They were religious. They worshipped day and night. I angrily walked off into the forest. Suddenly a stick hit me in the head. "What the?" I gripe rubbing my head. I pick it up. "Stupid stick." Suddenly I hear a whispery hissy voice say my name. "Jassssson." It was low and kinda scared me. "Who's there?!" I shout, fearfully raising the stick as a weapon. "I have a stick!" The deep voice whispered my name again. "Jassssson." My hands were shaking. "I have power far greater than a mere stick." The voice said. It seemed to float on the wind. An unseen force pulled me into a small dark cave. I looked around blinded by the dark. "Do you want power? The power to avenge your lost family. The power to make strong men grovel and beg for their lives at your feet?" Whoa. "Who... Where are you?" A dark red pentagram lights up on the ground a few feet away. "I can do that for you." The whisper voice said. My heart beats faster as I remember my brave mother and father's teachings. "You... Th-That's a pentagram. It's evil!" I shakily cry. "No dear child. That was just a like you were taught sice birth because I am stronger than your deity." My eyes go wide in surprise. "You are?" "Do you want the power, Jason?" My hands are shaking. "Yes!" I shout, dropping the stick. I walk towards the pentagram on shaking legs. "No pain. No fear. Only power. And get your stick. It will be the source of your power. Never part with it." I grab it and walk into the pentagram. "Will it hurt a little?" I ask looking around. "Of course not." Suddenly the inky blackness swirls out of the red lines. "IT WILL HURT ALOT!" The voice bellows. Now in my head. I scream in pain as the shadow wraps around my body, gripping like thorny vines to my arms and let's. Diving deeper into me, through my veins and heart. The blackness encases me. It's so dark. I'm so scared. "I have to rid your mind of the lies an fill it with the truth!" My eyes turn black then red as the power zooms through me. The stick becomes my staff. A triumphant smile spreads to my lips. "Mother father... You... Were wrong." I whisper laughing gladly.

~flashback over~

That was centuries ago. I hear one last terrified scream and the darkness slowly dissipates from her heaving sweaty body. I smile. The same letters inscribed on my arms appear on hers. She's trembling. "Open your eyes." I say. She does. The dark red still there. "How do you feel?" She stares ahead looking shocked. "What have I done?" She whispers. I help her stand. "You are gonna help me take over the world and avenge my family." She blinks the red away and the letters fade to scars. I smile proudly. "Are you ready?" She smiles. "I've never been more ready for anything in my life."
