Chapter 7

Jobs

Miranda's pov

I was reading through some spellbooks when Jason walked in. "Ya wanna watch the execution? It should be pretty cool." He asks. I get a little nauseous thinking about it. "Nah. I'm studying instead." I say, looking at him. "Where's your stick?" I ask watching him adjust his cape. He freezes. "Stick?" He gasps. "It ain't a stick. It's a staff!" I laugh. He glares at me with a smile. Then raises his hand, calling his stick to himself. It hits me in the head! "HEY!" I shout. He laughs. "Ya may have won my heart but I still know how to get ya good." I roll my eyes. "Ok. Get out there before they miss their king." He laughs. "Miss me my ass." He mutters walking out. I shake my head and continue reading.

*A few hours later*

I wake up hearing someone call my name. I didn't realize I fell asleep. Jason laughs, standing near me. "I've got a surprise for you." "A surprise?" I ask rubbing the sleep from my eyes. He unwraps some cloth and reveals a sword. Wow. "A sword." He nods and hands it to me. "It's heavy." I gasp caught off guard. "Use your power and light it on fire." I stare at him surprised. I do it though and the sword has fire all around it. "Whoa! Cool!" I gasp. He smiles. "Like it?" "I love it!" I gasp shocked. "Just press the button on the side to douse the flames." I do that and he hands me a sheath. I hug him. "Thanks Jason." "No problem." "What are we gonna do with my siblings?" "No clue." He says, scratching his head. We go out to the main room.

Jason's pov

I snap my fingers and one of our slaves walk over, glaring at me angrily. I smile, enjoying his misery. "Go fetch Mary and Joshua from the slave quarters." He leaves and we sit on the thrones. "Where are your siblings anyway?" "In their rooms. They haven't come out since we got here." "I wonder why." I say with a slight laugh. She glares at me with a smirk. "What're you doing with my parents?" She asks when the doors open. "I'm not gonna be an asshole to them cause I kinda like 'em enough." I say shrugging. She looks surprised. I walk off the throne. "You can't leave all those people in the dungeons!" Joshua says, the chains on his wrists rattling as he points back the way he came. The whole town is down there. "I'll take them out one by one to assign them jobs. Starting with you two. After all, your daughter is the reason I'm king now."

Miranda's pov

I instantly sink deeper into my seat. I guess I still have a conscience. "Mary oh Mary." He says sadly, shaking his head. "What?" She says, glaring at him. "I thought you were smarter than your dimwitted husband." He says, touching her cheek.

Jason's pov

She slaps my hand away. I shrug not really caring. "Since I like you enough, you can work in the castle's kitchen, preparing meals for me and the queen and the kids." She glares heatedly at me. "You'll have a prep team to help you." "I will do no such thing." She says. Man, try to be nice. "Well it's either that or work out in the fields during harvest season." "And if we refuse?" She says. "Oh honey don't follow in the footsteps of your late king and queen." She glances at Joshua. "And what of Joshua?" She says pointing. "Hm, I'll make sure he's taken care of. Take her to the kitchen." I say. The guard takes her from the room. Joshua instantly looks terrified in her direction. "Don't worry. She'll be well looked after." I say glaring at him. I hate him. She would've been mine if it wasn't for him. But I guess I can't complain. I got something better. I glance back at Miranda. Why does she look so nervous? "What are you going to do with me." "Well Joshua I'm a man of my word aren't I?" He raises a brow confused. "I told you I would help her control her powers. Didn't I?" He glares at me but nods. "What did you do to my daughter?" "I helped her. Now as I said, I'm a man of my word. So as I told Mary, you'll be okay too. As long as you don't cross me. You can be mine and Miranda's personal slave. Any problems with that?" "No." He growls through grit teeth. I smile. "Now get him out of my sight." A guard takes him away. I sit back down beside my girl. "I don't feel very comfortable my father being my slave." "Aw honey you'll be fine." "It's just a little weird for me." She says. "You alright? You seem a little down." "I don't know. I've just got this bad feeling in my gut. This.... All this feels wrong." Dammit. Her humanity is fighting to get out. "Why do you think this is wrong?" "These people-" "Shunned you! Looked at you like a freak. Now's your chance for revenge." She smiles. "I guess you're right. I've hated the way these dasterdly people looked at me." I smirk. "That's my girl."
