Chapter 3- Warnings And Threats

Maxine's pov

I walk downstairs the next day. "Mom dad when's Miranda coming home?" Dad sighs worriedly looking out the window. "We aren't sure, honey." He says. I sigh. I never thought I'd say this but... I miss sharing a room with my older sister.

Miranda's pov

I wake up hearing a loud clang then an angry swearing. I slowly get up, tired beyond means and remembering his warning of not sneaking up on him. "Jason?" I call. No response. "Jason?" I call a little louder, walking down the dim stone hallway. I look out a window I pass by and realize we're in a castle. "Well this guy lives rich." I mutter. I stop to think. "Why would he wanna help me? I always have a dark vibe coming off him." I rest my arms on the windowsill. "He seems like the type of guy who'd only help if he gains something... But.... What does he gain?" The door behind me slams open, making me scream. I spin around, my back pressed against the window. His stare is hard, angry. "W-Wha... J-Jason..." I mumble, trembling. "You're really grinding my gears, girl." He says, clutching his staff tightly, his knuckles white. "I'm.... I...." What do I say?! My heart is racing. He mumbles some words and I can't move, my arms are pinned at my sides. He pressed the staff against my windpipe, enough to make it uncomfortable but not actually hurt. "Why are you doing this?!" I cry, shaking. "A suspicious paranoid girl like you doesn't want my help?" "What yes I do??" I shout terrified. "Oh then why are you mumbling atrocious lies about me?!" "I'm sorry!!" I scream, shaking. He releases me. I collapse to my knees, gripping my now sore throat. I cough painfully. "Get up. We've got training to do." He growls glaring down at me in distaste. He walks down the hall, his boots clicking on the ground. I'm so scared.

Maxine's pov

I woke up in me and Miranda's room. "Hello?" It was void of everything except me and the bed I was laying in. But this wasn't even my bed. I stumble out and to a tiny door, maybe waist high. "What's going on?" I whisper opening it and crawling through. "Hello?" I call, rubbing my cold arms.

Jason's pov

I can't let her find out. I was close to blowing my cover. I've got to control my anger. "Hard to do when Satan is your literal boss." I mutter frowning. I flip through an old spellbook, hoping to find what I'm looking for. Something that'll help me deal with the damn girl. I sigh frustrated and go to my room. I get to my knees on the pentagram. "Please master I need your help." I pray. "I'm not strong enough to control this. I want to take over the world but I need your help to do that." Suddenly a loud knocking stirs me. "What in the fuck?" I growl, pissed. "I am sorry for the intrusion." I say, tipping my hat and walking out the door. The girl is still in chains where I left her. Stupid. She's very fucking stupid. I shake my head in anger and open the door slightly. I'm shocked to see Joshua. "What in the holy hell are you doing here?! And how did you find me?!" "It took a long time and a lot of asking around. For some weird reason many people got mad when I mentioned any talk of a powerful mage." I slap my forehead, frustrated and angry. Now I see where that girl gets her stupidity from! Surely it wasn't from Mary. That woman, mother of three is and will always be a talent to behold. And wen I take over the world, she will be my queen. Only problem with that is convincing her to be after I've enslaved the rest of her family. "What do you want Joshua?" I ask, ruder than I wanted to be. "It's Maxine. She won't wake up! Please!! Do you have anything that could help her!?" He cries, beggingly. I roll my eyes. "No I don't." I gripe, starting to close the door but he sticks his foot in it, holding the unconscious ten year old. "Please I beg of you! I've prayed to try God's above for three straight weeks!" Ugh. A worshipper? That makes it worse. "I said no. Now I've got more important matters to deal with!" "My daughter is going to die!" He shouts crying. "If you're such a powerful mage, you could do it! Are you just a phony!?" I glare at the annoying man before me. I slam the door open and slam my staff into his stomach, muttering a spell. The blue light illuminates from the tip of my staff and the lousy man flies back. Both beings fall to the ground. I walk over furious. "Do not doubt my strength Joshua. I've seen things you wouldn't believe. I've lost more than you can ever imagine. I've seen the world begin and watched as it took it's last breath. I suffered in a world where physics were controlled by a madman. I have secrets that must never be shared, stories that must never be told!" I growl grabbing his shirt. He's plum terrified. "Come back again with your accusations, I will make you pay." I warn. I throw him to the ground and he shakily stands back up. I grab the black haired girl's shirt and was about to throw her to her father when she suddenly woke up and grabbed my arm. "What the?!" I cry, caught off guard. I dropped her but she still had a grip on my arm. "Let go a me you brat!" She lifted her head and I saw her glowing red eyes! My heart almost stops. "Leave Tha place." The girl hisses, low and ragefiled. "The people of this village are protected by the almighty. You will not harm them!" I smile, proudly. "The almighty cannot stop me." "He can and he will!" "Well little girl, I'd like to see him try." I whisper dropping her to the ground and flashing back inside. I smile seeing Miranda chained up. "If the almighty protects his followers like my master does for me, then where is he for you?" I say, walking over and grabbing her chin. She's been asleep since I chained her up. Thankfully I had a sleep spell. I let go of her chin and her head slumps back down. "With just a little more research and a few more ingredients gathered, I will be able to drain your powers and use it for myself."
