Chapter 13- Never Too Late
Jason's pov
I'm so mad right now. After being taken to the dungeons in my weak state without my staff, the damn villagers beat me up. I angrily grip the bars frustrated, waiting for her to come down here. I like it way better when she was vulnerable, my little girl, frightened. I protected her. Now she's my enemy and must be taken down. Finally I feel the power radiating off the walls on the staircase. She walks down, holding my staff. "What's your problem?" She asks tauntingly smirking in my face. I grit my teeth angrily. "I MADE YOU WHO YOU ARE!!! YOU CAN'T DO THIS TO ME!!!" I yell enraged. She laughs softly, making even more pissed. "I can I will and I have." She says smiling proudly. I steal my staff back and she gasps in surprise. "Alohmora!" I yell. The door unlocks and I slam it open then slam it closed so no villagers get out. "Now it's my turn." I growl. I fire off a painful spell. She falls to her knees. "You're so codependent on that stupid stick. I bet you couldn't beat me without it!" Rage fills me. "SHUT UP!!! IT'S NOT A STICK!! IT'S A STAFF!!" I yell throwing her back. She slams into the wall ad falls to the ground. I'm breathing heavily from my adrenaline running out. "You done?" She asks standing up with a smirk. I can't catch my breath to respond. "Told you I was stronger." She says walking around me. I grab her amulet and yank it off. She just laughs. "What??" I gape shocked. "I am my power and my power is me!!" She yells blasting at me with a fire so hot, I start to sweat without it even hitting me. I dodge out of the way in the nick of time. "I'll stop you." I gasp leaning on the wall, my energy drained. "You can try but you can't stop me." She says, her eyes glowing red again. I'm desperate. Think. Think. Think! My eyes drift to her terrified father. And it clicks. I smile. I fire an energy blast and he slams into the wall crumpling to the floor. At first she doesn't seem to affected, more like confused then her eyes widen. "What's-" She's cut off when a bright golden lights encases her. She screams in pain. "CURSE YOU!!" She yells. I smirk and stand up. "Sorry honey. It was fun while it lasted but.... You went too far." I say. The light gradually fades away and what remains is a shaking unconscious 18 year old in a white dress. Which she wasn't wearing before. I sigh sadly. "I'm sorry kid." I open the gate and use a vanishing spell.
*Hours later*
Miranda's pov
I groggily wake up with my father pressing a cold compress to my head. "What's going on? Where am I?" I mumble exhausted. He hugs me. "I'm so glad you're back!" He says, examining my arms. "Back from where?" I ask confused. "That awful mage." He says angrily. "The letters are gone thank the God's above." He says, looking up to the heavens. "What's going on daddy? What happened to me?" After he explains it to me, I bust into tears. "I'm so sorry!" I cry hugging him. "Shh shh. It's not your fault. It's his. He controlled you." He whispers soothingly in my ear. "B-But m-mom? And Max... She must hate me!" I sob. "I don't hate you." I look over my father's shoulder. "It wasn't you who hurt me. It was that monster controlling you." She walks over and hugs me. "What happened to the mage?" He shrugs. "He disappeared." He says.
Jason's pov
I watch her using a spell that creates a window. I sigh. "It was going so well. We were the perfect team." I whisper sadly shaking my head. "Why'd I ave to fuck it up so bad?" I pick up her locket, holding it tight. "I'll never forget you angel." I whisper putting it in a glass case. "I'm a devil and she's an angel. It just wouldn't work." "You don't have to be." I tense up. What the heck? I spin around. "What the?! You?! How'd you-" I look at the little window and it shows my castle and her in the doorway. "You spyin' on me?" She asks smiling. I dissipate it, embarrassed. "You can come back into the light." I sigh and shake my head. "No I can't. I've been in the darkness way too long. It's too late for me." She walks over. "It's never too late, Jason." I sigh. "You just.... You don't understand." I say turning around, away from her. I feel her hand on my shoulder. "You may have stopped believing a long time ago. But he never stopped believing in you and loving you. It's never too late." She grabs my hand and I shakily look up at her. "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." She whispers. "Come back to the light, Jason. Nobody deserves this desolate and empty existence." I'm scared to. "I'm scared Miranda." She smiles. "I've got you." She whispered and to my shock, she kisses me.
