Chapter 2- Dark Intentions

Jason's pov

My power comes from the darkness. But my master is selfish. He won't give me powers of fire which is why I need the girl to make these lousy peasants grovel and bow down to me. Sure I could destroy them with something other than fire but I want to watch them burn. Watch the fire illuminate in their eyes and the terror written on their faces. I smile, flipping through a book on levitation. "What're you doing?" I scream in surprise and glare heatedly at her. "What'd I tell you about sneakin' up on me?!" I snap angrily. "You didn't tell me anything!" She sassily replies, crossing her arms. "Well I'm telling you now. Don't do it!" I slam the book shut and reshelf it. I turn to her and she stares at me with a fearful look on her face. "What?" "M-My father told me about that book." She says pointing. Uh oh. "What about it?" "It's dark magic!" She shakily cries, stepping back. "No it isn't. Your father doesn't know what he's talking about." I sit back down. "Now show me what you can do." "In here with all this flammable stuff?" She gapes stunned. "You forget. I can do so much more than your tiny mind could ever imagine." "Tiny mind? Are you calling me stupid?!" "Not... Stupid... Just uneducated in the arts of magic." "Well I guess that's... True." She mumbles, biting her lip. "Ok now use your power so I can see what I'm working with. "Ok but I'm just warning you... Once I turn it on, I have difficulty turning it off." I smile and sit up. "That's what I'm here for. Now point your palms to the ceiling." She does that, her arms shaking with fear. I sigh. "Kid, ya gotta be confident. Ya can't be scared of it." "I hate it though." I sigh and shake my head, walking over. "Tsk, tsk, tsk. You can't hate it. This power is what makes you unique. It makes you different from the rest. Stronger. Better." "I don't want to be different!" I grab her wrists. "You can use this power to help people!" She freezes and stares at me shocked. "How?" "Someone who's cold you can warm them up, save them from dying of cold. Or if it's dark, the lantern has gone out, you can relight it. You're stronger than you know. Now embrace this! Embrace what makes you... YOU!"

Miranda's pov

Wow. He's right. I shoot my hands in the air, palms facing out. I shoot fire into the air. "Yes!" He gasps, staring at it gladly... Almost lustfully. I take a deep breath. "Keep your breathing normal! You're doing great!" I smile proudly. My flame is me. I am my flame. "If you want to stop it, just calm yourself down. Your emotions control your power. High energy makes it go harder." I take a deep breath and think of my mom and dad. I feel it slowing then eventually stopping. "Wow! Thanks Jason, it worked." I shout happily hugging him.

Jason's pov

"Agh no touching." I gripe pulling free. "Under no circumstances are you to get your hands in water. That can mess up your powers. Make them unstable." "Oh. Okay." I pat her shoulder. "Alright I'm hungry. I'll go get lunch and you stay here." "Why can't I go with you?" I sigh frustrated. "Just stay here!" I snap annoyed. I put on my cape and grab my staff, heading out. "Stay here. I mean it." I say. "Stupid teenager." I mutter under my breath. I go to a nearby vendor. "Leave this town!" He says angrily. "Last time you were around, you killed my father and brother." "Your father and brother should not have gotten in my way." I say smiling. "Just give him what he wants." A frail scared woman says, holding the boy's arm. "No. I want you to leave." I smirk and pull out my staff. "As if I care what some raggety kid wants." I say, blasting the cart. "No!! Jeramiah!!!" I walk on down the road annoyed. Nobody and I mean nobody is going to get in my way.
