Chapter 16

Never look back. If Cinderella had looked back and picked up the shoe, she would have never found her prince. - Selena Gomez

Lexy and Selena walked over to the other side of the street, heading to the mall facing the public library they just left to get a pizza. They entered, and Lexy had a weird feeling in the pit of her stomach. You know when you just get paranoid on your period? Well, that's about it.

She felt the whole mall was just watching her every move. Or maybe they really were?

She turned over to Selena and asked : " Is there something on my ass?" Selena looked over and shook her head. "Then why's everyone looking at us?"

Selena looked around and not a pair of eyes wasn't directed to them. "They're not looking at me. They're looking at you."

Every single person froze at Lexy's sight.  A huge crowd was forming around her, keeping a safe distance. Their jaw dropped to the floor. Anxiety rushed over to her body, she felt monitored. Even Selena was walking backwards to join the crowd.

Lexy had mixed feelings and questions. She looked over her shoulder, and there it was. The thing everyone was staring at.

HER WINGS.

'Why the hell are theses out?'

She needed to do something, she needed to make everyone forget what just happened. Her wings disappeared, but the necklace wrapped around her neck was vibrating and shining uncontrollably. She placed a hand on it and it and words started echoing in her ears that nobody could hear.

"Repeat after me:

Forget everything unusual you saw." A lady-like voice said.

And Lexy did, closing her eyes shut, hoping everything would go back to normal.

"Lexy? Why are your eyes closed?"  Selena asked.

She opened her eyes and she felt a weight has been lifted off of her shoulders. Everyone was chatting, laughing, eating, picking up clothes.

"I was just having a bad headache. It's okay now, I'm fine."

Her necklace was back to normal. No one ever told her that she could cast spells?! And that was a weird thing. She's already Cupid, but can Cupid cast spells other than love ones?

She shrugged it off, keeping it at the back of her mind, entering a male's shop. She needed to get the perfect birthday gift for her loving boyfriend. Aiden already threw her a surprise party. Remember that call that Lexy overheard? Well, he was talking to a baker for her birthday cake.

She smiled, remembering the fun she had and laughing at the suspicions she had, especially after Xander's mysterious call. How could she not?

Lexy wanted to buy him something that he would use.

A tie? No, too lame. And he never wears a tie. The only man I've seen wearing a tie was Xander. Maybe a book? No, most boys don't like reading. Perfume? Everyone gets perfumes as a gift. I seriously don't know.

Suddenly, her phone started ringing, it was Xander calling her.

'How is it that every time I think of this man, he pops out of nowhere?'

She declined his call and continued talking to Selena normally.

They bought a pizza and climbed back in the car and went home. When they arrived home, Lexy's phone started ringing again.

"Who is it?" Selena asked her.
"No one."
"Come on, this person has been calling you since we were at the mall."

Lexy sighed and answered the call.

"What do you want?" She said in an annoyed tone.
"I need to see you." He said threw the phone.
"I'm busy."
"Busy doing what?"
"Matters that are none of your business." Lexy answered.
"This is the most boring call I've ever had. But seriously, I need to see you."
"I told you already, I'm busy."
"It's important, I swear, I won't take much of your time." He said, full of hope.
"Fine, tomorrow, 2 in the afternoon. Where do you want to meet up?"
"Chef Mavro Restaurant. Do you want me to pick you up?"
Another fancy restaurant , she thought.

"No, it's okay, I'll manage."

He paused, probably thinking about something. "See you tomorrow, love."

Lexy rolled her eyes at his last comment, hanging up the call.

Selena looked at her, smirking."Oh, don't give me that look!".

Selena chuckled:"Well, who are you meeting up with at 2?"

"Mr. Grey"

 "Why?"

"He said it was urgent. And anyways, I have a boyfriend. So I probably shouldn't be meeting up with Xander."

"Won't you tell Aiden?" Selena asked.

"No. He'll flip out! He already hates him, from the moment we met him at the damn airport." "Yikes." Lexy laughed.

They both sat at the kitchen's countertop table, and ate the hawaïen pizza they had picked up. Aiden was still taking a shower. When he finished, he joined them, but only for a few minutes. It was already 9 PM.

"Why are you all dressed up?" Lexy asked.

"I need to finish up some new project I got at work. It's due by tomorrow, so I'll probably come home late." Lexy frowned at what he said.

He kissed her forehead and said: " I love you, don't wait up for long."

Lexy never really paid attention to her lover's eyes. But from the position they were in, locking eyes, she took a really good look.

His eyes were the color of milk chocolate edged with a deep forest-green. Sometimes the two colors seemed to swirl together like moss creeping over rich soil. And when he smiled both colors ignited with a glow dazzling him with the warmth of the deep brown and the seductive green dancing around its edge. It was his eyes, that got her in deep love with him.

She was still looking at the exact same spot Aiden was a minute ago. What if, one day, he would just turn up and leave. What if he doesn't love her anymore? What if he never wanted her to be her boyfriend in the first place?

No, he loves her. Right?

She looked' back at Selena. She was gathering her things up, it was late and she needed to get back to her family. Lexy thanked her for the amazing day she had, and Selena left like if she was never here.

A phone rang. Not Lexy's. Not Selena's, she had already left.

Lexy looked around, and found Aiden's phone in the toilets. He must of forgotten it while he was taking a shower. The caller was unknown, and it wouldn't stop ringing.

Should I pick up? Maybe it's work related. Or maybe it's him calling from the office's cell?

And she did. But she wasn't prepared for what the raspy  voice said next.

"You promis-s-sed me drugs t--two days ago, and I still hav-ven't got them! I'm, I'm, only giving you until... until, after tomorrow afternoon. No drugs, no girlfriend! I'm warning youuuuuu."
