My last day in the summer house had come. I was almost
eighteen. I had already decided that I wouldn't be coming back the next
year. I would find a job somewhere back home and fend for myself until
I started community college. I didn't need to keep coming back to that
place and sleeping in the same bedroom that I had once shared with
Klara. I was prepared to get over her, especially since I imagined it
would help us progress back into a closer friendship.
I took in everything. Every room. Every path in the woods. Every
rock on the beach. I played with Ringo one last time. I said my goodbyes
to the Jacobs family. I said good-bye to the house. I said good-bye
to everything.
