Birthday Surprise

Months really fly so fast. Three more months left and it's already summer. We were on our Christmas break, and for a week, I've been busy preparing something for Charles' birthday. I hope today would be worth all the planning.

"Besfran, okay na lahat?" tanong ni Aika sakin, nasa garden kami. Nagseset-up ng decorations.

"Yup. Dinouble check ko na," sabi ko sakanya habang inaayos ko yung ilaw na isasabit.

Hindi pa kami naguusap ni Charles ngayong araw. I haven't replied to any of his messages or answered his calls. My phone keep on beeping the whole day, pero binalewala ko lang yon.

"Wait lang, punta lang ako sa kitchen. Tawagan mo si Cha, besfran... Sabihin mo magpunta na dito, uuwi ako muna ako para magshower," I told her tapos dumeretso na ako sa kitchen.

Charles is an hour away from the events place. After I checked everything, umalis na din ako. Wala nang tao sa bahay, andon na din sila mommy, kanina pa. Nagshower lang ako, tapos nagbihis na. Naglagay ng make up. I wore a short sleeve party dress, paired with a 3 inch heels. Nilugay ko lang yung buhok ko.

My phone rang.

Besfran calling...

"Besfran," I said over the line.

"Where are you?" she asked, "Tinawagan ko na si Charles,"

"Paalis na ako," kinuha ko na yung sling bag ko, "I'll be quick."

"Okay, besfran, bye,"

"Bye..."

I checked and unplugged all the wires and turned all the lights off inside the house. It's 5:30 in the afternoon. I arrived in there exactly at 6:00pm. Just like what I thought, I went straight to the garden area of the restaurant.

Everything was all settled, I smiled upon what I saw.

Lumapit ako kay Aika, "Is everything okay and settled?"

"Yup, am I gonna call and ask where he is na?" I nodded at her.

Lumapit ako doon sa naghahandle ng music sa garden. I handed him my flash drive, "Paplay po ako nito after ng happy birthday, thank you," I smiled, tumango naman siya.

"Okay, guys! Positions!" Aika shouted, she stood beside me, her phone was on loud speak.

"Hello, Aiks?" I smiled upon hearing Charles' voice, "I'm on the door now, asan si Aira?"

I can't help but to laugh so I covered my mouth, my mom gave me the cake. "Walk inside, Charles, sa garden part. She's waiting,"

Sumenyas si Aika, the lights turned off. Then, instrumental music was on the background.

"I'm here, Aika... Wala namang tao," he said, "Sarado yung sliding door, and the lights are off," he added, "Please don't play games on me, where is she?"

"Pull the door open, Charles,"

Then, she counted to three. I heard Charles' calling her over the line. But he obeyed her, he pulled the door.

"One...."

"What?

"Two..."

"Hey..."

"Three..."

All the lights turned on, "Happy Birthday, Charles!" everyone shouted in unison.
