nobody expects: a slam poem
Nobody expected the girl with passing grades, a good home, and life to be depressed.
Nobody expected her to cut herself
Nobody expected her to cry herself to sleep at night.
Those nights are the worse for her, it's like her inner demons come out to play, and it ends with them suffocating her.
She drowns in her own thoughts and it's like no one can save her.
Nobody expected her to try to overdose 5 times
Nobody expected her to have contradicting thoughts.
Or that she feels empty on the inside at times
No one expected that she lacks enough emotions, that she feels so numb to the point where she doesn't know if she should live or not.
No one expected that she was growing thinner because she wasn't eating enough.
No one expected that she was facing her own battles.
She was gaining scars
She was fighting on her own.
She tried to fix herself
But she kept breaking down.
She put a smile on her face as she walked out her house
She plastered her face with makeup, hoping that it would hide her dark circles.
She hoped no one found out her cheeks were swollen because she had a mental break down on the way to college.
Nobody expected...
She wished they expected.
But they didn't expect that I have my own battles.
