Since the party, Major and Luna started hanging out, and Maverick was making inroads with Larkin. As much as Dad wanted to rip their heads off, cooler heads prevailed with Ma and Nana, who pointed out the fact both Dad and Grampa were older than them.

So he made a compromise that they had to wait until Larkin and Luna turned eighteen before romantically pursuing them. Until then, there is nothing more than friendship. Luna wasn't happy about it, and Larkin was indifferent to it all. I will never understand my sisters.

Did I mention at some point, Dad paid a visit to Uncle Nathan regarding Maverick and Major? Yeah, it wasn't pretty.

It wasn't until one day when Larkin showed up at the chapel to talk to Uncle Nixon that things changed. She walked in to find him talking to a guy. The guy was around his age with jet black hair and ice-blue eyes.

"Uncle Nixon?" Larkin said, getting Nixon's attention.

They stopped talking and looked at her.

"Sorry, you're busy. I'll come back later," Larkin said.

"Lark, I need to take care of something real quick. If you wait a minute, we can sit down and talk," Nixon said to her.

"Yeah, sure," she shrugged as she walked away.

The man stood there as she walked around.

"It's a nice chapel, isn't it?" The man asked her.

"Yeah, I love coming here," Larkin commented.

"Why's that?" The man asked her.

"I feel safe," Larkin answered.

"Oh?" The man looked at her with curiosity.

"Uncle Nixon makes me feel safe," she shrugged as he looked at her.

"Why does he make you feel safe?" The man asked.

"Because I know he would let nothing happen to me," she answered.

"So, he provides a sanctuary for you?" The man questioned her.

"Yeah, I know if I need him, he will be there," she added.

"What about your family?" The man asked.

"They do, but Uncle Nixon and I have a bond," she said, not realizing the man was moving closer.

"That's good because sometimes we go to someone because we know no matter what, our family will be there for us. My wife did that. She came to me over her family," the man mentioned.

"What do you mean?" She turned and looked at him as he arched an eyebrow.

"When we were younger, someone brutally raped and beat her. She called me out of everyone. I went without hesitation. She made me promise not to call her brother. It was a promise I broke," he explained.

"Was she mad?" Larkin asked.

"At first, but eventually she realized her brother needed to know and understood why I called him and another friend. It took time, but eventually, she and I became close and ended up together," he said to her.

She looked at him as he smiled at her.

"Who are you?" Larkin asked the man.

"Doctor Jordan Shaw, I'm a psychiatrist," Jordan introduced himself.

"You're the guy that my uncle mentioned," Larkin said.

"Yep," Jordan replied.

She looked at him.
